Do Hummers/Humvee's have any problems with rust? And are hummers waterproof? Humvee's are waterproof aren't they?

what do you mean by waterproof? it is a diesel so it doesn't have igniton to get wet and short out. some models have the intake and exhaust that are at roof level. so they can go through deep water. but if you are asking if they can go through deep water with out any getting inside i don't think they are that waterproof. i have not heard of them having rust problems

Actually I was reading some brochures or the official website and saw they had a GM 350cid V8 gasser in there also as an option, I guess for the yuppies who prefer to be able to get to any gas station to fill up and not have that "stinky" diesel... hahahahaha /wwwthreads_images/icons/laugh.gif What's funny is that the turbo diesel still out accelerated the gasser powered hummer... /wwwthreads_images/icons/laugh.gif

Yeah, the 350 version was EXTREMELY underpowered. I thought they got rid of that option years ago.

If you want a gas motor in a Hummer, there's a company that makes a kit to put a 502 in a Hummer!/wwwthreads_images/icons/cool.gif Can you say 4mpg?

That company would be Off Road America in Jacksonville, FL. They even have one Hummer with a 572 ci BB (along with other goodies.) This truck has 600 ft-lb of torque and will idle over smaller obstacles. Awesome vehicle!

HMMWV's have Kevlar bodies (no rust) and their interiors are SPARSE, so they are virtually undamaged by fording. Hummers are a different story: fiberglass still doesn't rust, but the leather seats, emissions systems, power windows & locks, and CD changers don't work well after being submerged. ...and you get minnows in the cupholders!/wwwthreads_images/icons/laugh.gif

Actually, the frame/body component is metal. They are notorious for rusting out if the "field expedient" drain holes (rifle bullet holes) have been added. Many parts of the body are Kevlar or fiberglass, such as the hood and sometimes the doors, but it is not 100% Kevlar.
