I put a Smittybuilt weld-in cage in my Cruiser. It was about $85 and held up well though about a dozen light roll-overs, but I trashed it in the last one. They're a good basic cage, but if you get even a little bit crazy when you wheel, you'll probably want to beef it up a little(or a lot).

I am looking at purchasing a front hoop kit for my 86 cj-7. I was wondering if anyone has any experience with Kentrol and Smittybuilt products and what your preferences are?

I have the Kentrol in my '80 CJ7 and it fits fairly well. It needs to be mounted slightly offcenter if you want to keep the passenger handle bar and still be able to use the glove box. I also recomend the tie into frame kit with it also. The tie into kit tie into kit doesn't use bushing though so if that bothers you then get the tie into kit from MORE. The other option for a cage is to have it fabricated. Some offroad shops do it, but I found that drag racing shops/ builders make some nice ones also. When I have the family cage put in I will have it fabed at the drag racing shop that I trust (I don't trust my welding when it comes to landing on my head).

I have been told that either the glove box or the window crank has to be inoperable with a Hoop, is that what you are talking about with being offset?
Any suggestions for best price for the MORE Tie into frame kit or either of the Hoops?

If you want soft doors the the glove box will work with the front hoop off set to the passenger side slightly. If you want hard doors then you have two options. First you could remove the passenger grab bar on the dash and center the cage so the glove box will not work. The other option, which is what I have, is to off set it and bend the door, with heat and a hammer, to conform to the bar. Right now I have the original cranks on the door and if I want the windows open then I open the door to open the window. The other option, that I will do if I ever put the hard doors back on, is to take a couple of ratchets (probably a 3/8 inch) and make an adapter to connect them to the window crank and ratchet the window up and down. I think a Scout fetured in Four Wheeler a couple months ago used a similar setup to this. 4WD hardware sells the kentrol for $95.75 plus shipping. I'm not sure how much shipping is because I picked it up at there store (I live 45 minutes from them). As for the MORE I'm not of the best price, but MORE sells them for $55 plus shipping.
