What kind of seats, if any will bolt onto the seat brackets of a CJ. I talked to a couple of salvage yards and they weren't much help. They also said that once I take the seats they are mine whether they fit or not, and they won't let me test fit them there. I know that countless people have done a seat swap, so let me know what ya used. thanks

In my case, I didn't have the luxury to look around. I had the seats - how to make them fit? I got 2 pieces of plate steel (one for each seat), and drilled holes to fit both the seat frames and the seat. Measure twice - cut once! Of course I needed 16 nuts/bolts to attach. Only raised the seat about 1/4". As an added bonus, now I have a mounting plate under each seat for amps or whatever needs to be out of the way and protected.

I put seats from a Ford Escort in my old CJ7. I think all I had to do was drill two new holes in the Jeep seat rails to line
up with the front holes in the Escort. It looked like Mustang seats would work too. Look for mid to late 80s Fords.

Oh boy, the seat question again. I have 1984 RX-7 seats in my CJ-7. The only thing I needed to do was make a bracket for one
side and drill 4 holes. Comfortable, nice bolstering, adjustable lumbar. Best thing about it was mine were free, got them from my
son who put Recaros in his RX-7 (no, he wouldn't give me the Recaros)! /wwwthreads_images/icons/smile.gif

I knew that there wouldn't be any direct bolt ons, except for another jeep seat. just want to get ones that won't require a great deal of fabrication to install.

How about a Bench seat in a jeep? the one in my old S-10 was mighty comfy alot more comfortable than my low back buckets. Just thinkin'

My seats came from a late model Chevy van. Had to drill one hole in the passinger side mounting bracket and Ta-Da, high back seats!
Not hard to swap seats into a CJ. Good Luck!!!

I had good luck with Steel Horse. I guess you get what you pay for. I heard seats from a Pontiac Fiero work well. Speakers in the headrest :)

I want to get leather seats for my CJ7. My wife just got a 2000 Grand Cherokee and the heated leather seats are great. I think you can mount any seat in the CJ, you just need to bolt them to the bottom frame one way or another. I have never been to a salvage yard. How are the prices and what can you find there? Can I find a new car with heated leather seats and how much would they cost?
Thanks, Jeff /wwwthreads_images/icons/cool.gif
