Just talked to my son tonight, we put a timing belt on his 90 model today, he had broken it riding on Sunday. We lined the timing and crank marks up, both at the top, put the belt on, spun the motor 720 (two full turns) and the marks still lined up. So I am assuming that it is on right. We set the valves and the fac specs and he put it all back to gether, He said it cranked right up, idles good, buy when he tried to drive it across town he said he had no power, would barely pull out of the driveway, Any suggestions? His timing couldnt be off could it? We never moved the distributor..... His motor was a super running 90 model FI before the belt broke. He couldnt have damaged any valves when the belt broke could he ? Thanks for your input in advance, WHAT A GREAT WEBSITE..............

mmmmmmmmmmmmmm....................

Just guessing here.

BUT, didn't you just ask this question 'bout a month ago???

Once again, for the terminally ill.

Sorry, Mr. Birdie for stirring the pot. I forgot that this is a safe-haven for puss.........kittens. I'll keep my mouth shut & direct your posts to those that CAN rib on someone WITHOUT catching SH!T.

Thank you for your support.

You think you could AT LEAST SEARCH your very own posts for the fukkin answer.

But then again, you'd still get it wrong.

get a life bradzuki, this is my first timing belt question.
My manual says cam pully pointed straight up, and crank marker pointing strait up. I spun the motor twice 720 degrees and the marks still lined up strait up, I never checked the timing, I will give that a check tommorow, Thanks Sarge, by the way, I bought a 1600 conversion with your carb set up on it a while back, YOU DO GREAT WORK

thanks

He gave his thoughts on the timing qusetion true, but being a assh*le and slamming a guy for a simple question is bullsh*t. If you don't want to give a a guy a straight answer then don't post and have another beer.

True... but the question he did ask was answered previously. I take Mark lightly because he is kinda lazy with the search function. Maybe Brad is just sick of it all... you ever have a day like that?

I don't know why he reacted the way he did specifically. It is annoying that Mark did ask the same question less than a month ago and completely forgot the answer so he re-asked it, maybe that's why?

I don't pick up on that stuff because I don't really care plus I come on here for enjoyment, not to argue. But it is annoying and makes me want to surf elsewhere seeing people regurgitate their own questions when a simple search would do.

You know what'll make everyone happy... posting some pics of my project! The dovetail is coming out muy bueno!

but being the smart one is up for debate

Hey, I've been here plenty long enough. Mr. markmartinbirdie has been here 2 mutha fukkin YEARS longer than I have. I search to find what I need & if I can't find it, I ask.

Check Brent's post-----the "old schooler" just asked this same EXACT question. If someone is too stupid to take advice the first time, then PLEASE, PLEASE---don't come back asking again.

And if me being an ass is too much for you then you don't have to reply either.

Brad.

Even if you get the sprockets right you can have the belt a tooth out which will either advance or retard your valve timing. If you have power at high revs then you have it retarded
This is why Bergs adjustable cam sprockets are such a good addition to your motor.

actually i did not ask the same question as before, we put this timing belt on just like we did last time (with input from the board) but this time somethings not right. I am a little confused on one point... my timing marks need to both be at 12 oclock (haynes photo) or the cam at 6 and the crank at 12 ? One other question, since my motor has spun free from the cam, wouldnt I have a 50 / 50 chance that my motor might not be on TDC compression stroke? Sorry for all the questions (and I do search some) but I dont have a lot of experience when it comes to motors.

Thanks

i will try setting the timing first, then trouble shoot from there, I would think that if I were 180 off or even 360 off, it wouldnt crank and idle would it? It cranked immediately and idled well, I am thinking that Sarge is right and my timing may be off.

Did you bring up the #1 piston to TDC before you set the timing marks? If you don't know you can check it by bringing up the #1 and checking the timing mark on the distrubtor if your off 180 degrees the rotor will be pointed away from the mark.
