Man I can't get the FU$%*&G round wire out!!! I have bent a bunch of little allen wrenches, broken 3 sets of snap ring pliers, and bent 2 center punches!!!! I am soooooooo frustrated!! My needle nose pliers are just too fat to get in and grab the round wire.....whoever the darn engineer who designed these freakin things.....I am going to find him/her(lets be politically correct) and give'em a piece of my mind!!!! I got all my new parts everything ready to go and these two litte round wires are holding up my whole project!!! Anyone got any ideas on how to get these things out?? I am desperate!!

There is a special tool made just to remove those ring fasteners. It's basically some pliers with needles at the end that fit in those holes.
Don't you hate that!!!!! You figure, "this project will take a couple hours" and it ends up taking a weekend. Only in a Jeep, right? (c:

Hey Panther.....yeah I really hate that...I can't wait to get these puppies under there!!!! I will try and find that tool tomorrow at the auto parts store...see what they got, or maybe Sears will have it(all the other stuff I broke is Craftsman...bet your a$$ I am going to get replacements.)

I made my own tool years ago, and it still works fine

I took a coathanger, cut of the straight rung on the bottom, bent one end at a very sharp anlge ( like a V with one side being about an inch, and the other the ful length)

and gronund a very sharp point on that short tip with a grinder...
then bend a little crook in teh other end just for a better handle..

works like a charm, costs 10 minutes...

OK 12 minutes later I have both rings out...ozarkjeep THANK YOU SOOOOO MUCH!!!!

Oh and one more thing....I have to go get a hub nut socket tomorrow and I talked to the guy at the parts store and he said I would need 34 or 36mm...but I measured it an got nothing close to that...so what size do I need..anyone??

what jeep are you working on? if it is a 75up FS it may require the four prong that ford and chevy use. as far as the round rings i use a very small screwdriver and a dental pick. on the trail i have even used a pocket knife and my allen wrench. what you do is find an end, tuck the blade under, lift the ring up slightly and pull it out at the same time.

yeah it's an 86 Blackjack....the FSM says that I need a hub nut socket....it does look like the 4 prong though....I will find out tomorrow when I go to the parts store.
