My KX 250 has been cutting out at high RPMs and sometimes acts like its been flooded.
anyhow, I've been told i need to rejet the carburator.

Some general questions:
How hard is this to do without totally screwing up my carb?
Looking for Jets I ran across about 16 different options. Which would be the best to put in?

As always I'm thankful for any assistance,

Doug

You have to give us a bit more info on your bike first. Like what year is it, is it box stock or do you have an after market pipe and silencer on it. Do you ride at a sea level or is it above sea level. Is your air filter dirty? All of these things afect your jetting as well as humidity. One of the best things that you can do is just take your carb off and very carfuly take it aprt and clean it with contact cleaner, and then use compressed air to finish it off. You want to make sure that your bowl float is not stuck, and that all your jets are open and not clogged. Your problem could be as simple as a clogged main jet if you say the bike cuts out at high rpm. Dirt Bikes are like hot women. High Maintance. Now go out and RIDE!

I should probably introduce myself to the group and in the process give info about what we ride.
My son (9yrs old) rides a '03 TTR 90 and a '99 KX 60
I(40 something)try to ride a '91 KX 250 Stock, except for after market "Fatty" pipe. I've not been on a two stroke in about 20 yrs

We live and ride in Austin TX, roughly sea level, higher humidity.
I'm able to turn a wrench and willing to try anything with proper documentation. (I need pictures)

We, my son and I, are learning and he's keeping me young and fearless trying to keep up with him. He only knows one speed, wide open!!
If ya'll are ever down this way we're always looking for people to ride with and learn from.

Sorry for rambling,

Doug (dad) and Josh (son)

Kids are great at keeping us young. Don't be afraid to kick him over if he tries to pass you. Remember our only asset is that we have more money than our kids and we out weigh them. They can probably beat us at most things, if we raised them right(but don't let them know it!).

So, I bit the bullet the Sunday and pulled the carb off my KX 250. I found some grass and twigs in the bottom of the float. I removed the jets and found the Main was mostly blocked. I blew everything out, cleaned it well, and reassembled.
I kicked it over and WOW!!!
I tried to ride it like I have been and it nearly threw me. I rolled on the throttlke and this thing just came to life.

Anyhow, Thanks to all who replied,

Doug

Hi all, been gone awhile. I have been moving from one house to another. Still not quite done. I am stuck using dial up internet service till SBC gets their act in gear with my DSL. They promised one week, its now been three. I haven't done any riding, and my bike is looking real sad and lonley in the new garage with boxes piled all around it.
Anyway keep up the good B.S. and the good info. also. I'll check back in a day or so, to see who got good bike stuff from Santa.
Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good ride.
