Ok, i've always wondered, what is an acceptable cruising RPM for my motor, say anywhere from 15 min to over an hour. I have the 94 TBI 350 with just over 100k on the odo. Anything below 2200? 2500? 3000?
Anything over about 2200 i start to think im pushing it a little hard, am i being a wuss?

Thanks!

actually, i'm like you, i like to keep cruising under 2200(that's @ 75-78mph). i have read online though, that V8s cruise anywhere from 18-2600, and of course, that's including all gear ratios and tranny combinations, FI-ed or carbed.

stock 265s and 342s cruised me at 1900 @ 70mph

rumming 4.10 gears i amrougly 2000R's @ 75mph. with 35" tires
i am about 2300 at same speed with 1 inch meats. anything undr 24000 i feel comfortable with. p ast that, i change oil every 1.K miles using nothing other than valvoline. aside from "V" mobil one. nothing else will ever be in a vahicle of mine. My family has been usin valvoline since 1866 when it as developed. great garandpops used it wen he went from blacksmith to fixing vehicles, grandpa used in his certified shop, pops uses it and i was borne and raised into it, nver had a problem with it aside from hitting a tree at 35MPH and crushid radiator adn hole in oil filter. no oil, and no cooolant makes for 4 miles and welded cam sgtt and lifters. "V" synpower and it ran like chap after, no rebuild, just breaking welds and new timing chain. "V" is the way to gfo

Ya I also got 3.42's and 285's... Hey U4IA4, I must have missed something? Did you get a new truck or did you lift the other one??? OT- but I like the fact the 350 puts out 330lbs at 2800... These new engines put it out less clear up at like 4000+ thats retarded.

Well I dont have a Tach so I couldnt tell ya and also my RPM range is probably different then you guys since I have a diesel but, my OD kicks in about 53 so at 55 IM barely over my idle speed. Even at about 75 it doesnt really seem to be reving hard.

I prefer between 1800-2000 for the highway and 2000-2200 for the expressway.

This last trip up here I had a headwind the entire way so I didn't get to use overdrive. My 305 didn't seem to mind spinning at 3400rpm (third gear) on the expressway for four hours and then 2800 (third gear) on the highway for five hours. I didn't like it but the 305 didn't seem to care (other than I used 14 gallons more gas than normal).

Although I know better, I just can't go slow. I frequently went 75 to 85+ in my 87 K30 with a 350, sm465 and 4.56 gears with 33. Thats about 3650 to 4200 rpm, for long periods of time. Needless to say, that motor is no longer with us. I just got a new motor ordered (300hp, 400lbft) and will try to keep it under 3200 rpm (which is still way to high for a 350).
