Hey all,

Well my zuk is back on the road but I have a concern about the rear toy axle.

When I got the axle, the companion flange was a little loose, in that I could wiggle the flange up and down. So I replaced the outer bearing and race. Since I did this in place and with the axle shafts in I took a guess at the bearing pre-load setting.

Anyway, after driving it about 10 miles to work today the diff. housing around the outer bearing felt warm to the touch. Is this indicating a problem?

Also, when I located the axle perches I pointed the pinion up towards the t-case and I run a toy CV shaft. Is this angle too high for the bearing to get oiled properly? Will the oil slinger still function when the pinion is pointed up this high? Anybody with rear CV shaft and toy axle have bearing oiling problems?

TIA,
Paul
I'll post pix of the new ride tomorrow.

If you rotated the pinion up, how are you checking/filling it with oil ? My sami has a rotated pinion and I just use a set of ramps to raise the rear axle far enough to make the pinion level then fill the oil accordingly....

Paul, warm is OK, Hot isn't. Diffs need a good amount of preload to keep things in place under load, the heat is a by-product of that preload. Use a quality gear oil, if not synthetic.
