I am wanting to put a gas tank in the rear of my '70 CJ5 in order to replace the underseat tank...How hard is this to do???...If I remeber correctly they came stock in the rear later in '70...If this is the case could I find a tank and hardware out of a late '70 up until the changed the CJ5 and just throw it there???...I know that I would need to cut a whole for the filler cap and stuff...Any advice/help/input/funny faces/whatever would be much apperciated...

I'm not positive, but I believe the back end of CJ5's were the same thru 1975. Thats when they widened and partly boxed the frame.
You can try finding a rear tank for a '72 - '75. These are easier to find. Good luck.

You may have to add in a crossmember in the rear for the tank/skidplate to
bolt up to. Also make sure your exhaust will clear. You may have to re-route
it. Depending on what the dimensions are, you could probably bolt in a 15 gl.
tank pretty easily. You'll also need to run some new fuel line.
