My buddy's 97 TJ with a 4 liter and five speed, screwed up his rear differential. He's had it in the shop for around a month since he wants to find a used rear end or diff.. He doesnt want to spend the big bucks on a new one since it seems to be hard to find one off of a TJ around here. Do any of you know of a good replacement rear that would fit a TJ without any major mods? Or if at all possible, do you know of anyone who might have one that is off of a stock TJ? He is past his warranty period also.

I'm not exactly sure what happened to his rear end, but the dealership said it was from "severe abuse". I'm sure that is something that they are trained to say, especially for those who have vehicles under warranty. He told me that his rear wheels locked on him while driving up his home street. (Lucky him) His mechanic said that the rear diff was f**ked!
He hasn't taken it off road, just snow. The only time it was off road was when I borrowed it from him in Oct. and went four wheeling in a new housing developement; all wet clay.
