RCI seat comfort level

I am considering putting some RCI seats into my Sami, but they just don't look very comfortable. Anybody have them?

I have that style of seat- I don't know if they are RCI's, Summit's or JAZ seats. I bought a pair of them with covers from a guy on the shortwheelbase board for $30. I figured that I couldn't go wrong for that price. I like that alot. I drive my sami almost every day. I have had the seat since early July.
I have taken it on a few long trips (3-4 hour drive time). I will tell you that they are narrow and you don't want to have a wallet in your back pocket, but other than that they are comfortable. They will hold in place- no lateral movement which is nice.

i run them in my jeep and i think they are the ideal seat for a open aired trail rig. they are weather proof (well once you drill a couple of holes in the bottom of the seat and a few more out the very bottom of the back to help prevent water from staying in them) and cheap. everyone is correct about the wallet. if they are a bit too hard for your taste you can always add a layer of foam under the covers. i have seen people do this. i had origionally planned to do that to mine but after installing them i found it wasn't necessary. one note is if you a big person you might not want them. i have heard of heavier people complane about them.

I have 'em, and I have to say that High5 said exactly what I was gonna say /wwwthreads_images/icons/smile.gif. The only thing that I would add is that these seats are very ergonomic. That allows a good amount of comfort with a minimal amount of padding. I'm 6'3", 235 Lbs., and I've trailed for 10 hours straight with no complaints. I've also barrell-rolled down a hill (not fun), and these seats work beautifully with 5-point harnesses. The two combined with my roll cage kept me and my wife completely safe. If you're serious about the obstacles you climb, they're a must.

I will say that it took me about a week to get used to them. But after that week, some problems that I'd been having with my back due to the lack of lower back support on my old seats disappeared. Now, I won't use any other seat. Hope this helps!

Well I would try one, not buy 2. I have only sat in them, not run them for any length of time, But I found them unbearable. (I have a VERY messed up spine BTW.) I do okay
with tracker seats, I have them in 2 of my samis now.
If I think I could stand the RCI I would buy a set and install them, but the times I have sat in them even for
5 mins was too much. Just another data point your milage may vary.

The seat comes with six threaded inserts in the bottom - you just screw bolts up into it. If you get their adjustable rails, they come with the hardware to bolt them to the bottom of the seat, then you have four bolts pointing straight down - you could drill your floor, or mount a plate & screw them to that. If you have a Sami, Spidertrax makes a great set of mounting plates, to bolt the RCi seat into the Sami. I have a Sidekick, so I'm into fab mode.

Good Luck

i just used a flat plate of steel and attaced it to my stock cj seat brackets i imagine you can do the same with a sami. i know psf4x4 runs them in his and i am pretty sure that is how he mounted his, i remember reading an off-road.com tech article about 2 years ago or so that described putting them in a zuk. you might search the archieves (sp?)

I bought the seats from Summit with the covers. I am 6'5" 190 lbs. My back started to hurt but it seemed due to friction (only in one precise spot) and is tender to this day. I bout a thin pad (for sleeping bags) that has thick and thin foam layers, cut to fit, and they've been the best seats since.

I first did the plate of aluminum across the stock sliders install. The first thing I noticed was that my head almost touched the overhead bar! The seats were raised alot (an inch more of seat height and a few due to the upright position). I am now in the process of fab'in legs for the seats that are lighter, lower, and a little farther back. This wasn't a big deal till I installed the full cage. Then my head was way to close to harder objects.
