Rat-adapters---yeah they\'re tough

For anyone that is thinking of purchasing a set of Rat-adapters. Or, maybe someone out there thinks they might not be tough enough. Here is the proof.

'88 skuzi
1.3L--all stock
stock skuzi axles w/ 5.83 gears---locked f&r----birfield rings
CJs rear---warped
RUF w/ 6 or 7 leaves
no shocks
35" swamper TSLs
stock t-case----has 4 to 1 but not installed yet

Went on New Year's ride, flopped over. Got pissed off, tried ledge that flopped him again. Twisted shaft. (short & sweet version)

'Nutter from the other side. Sorry 'cuz of E.'s ugly face in the pic. Notice the angles now. ouch.

He drove it home.

So yeah..................all of Scott's products suck!!

That is a slick and nasty looking ledge . Did it just pull you over as you tried to go up it ?
And yup RockRat builds pretty stout stuff . I have a goose egg on my head from my tube clip he made .
My head =0 rockrat tube clip=1

That looks like you need a locker in the front to make it a little easier . Mike made it up with an open front I guess ?
I have broken a hub bolt but I havent lost one yet . On my cj the hub bolts like to loosen up so I put 242 on them to keep them in place .

Me & Mike are both welded in front. He made it by hopping it up & over---resulting in a flop & twisted d-shaft. After I lost all my bolts & no-one had any more, I backed out. I was trying not to break anything 'cuz of the 45 min. ride back to the house I had to make.

I've broken a few sets of bolts----bitch to get out. This new set of grade 2 bolts was installed with a 1/4" ratchet and lots of anti-sieze. Guess they worked themselves out & left me free-wheelin'.
Loose bolts + anti-sieze = easier to get out & replace on the trail. (Better than breaking an axle)

Unfortunately, I guess I should stop & check them every once in a while to make sure they're still there.

Did you have a stock yoter shaft or did you buy the longer (I think '84+????) center section shaft and have it shortened??

Exactly.

There are really 2 points to this post.

1. Anything you get from RockRat is top-notch.

2. a stock suzuki drivetrain twisted a d-shaft before breaking anything.

I love all the posts that say 31s are the max for suzuki axles. Mike has been running these 35s for 2 years now. He has broken 2 lockers, but never an axle. He literally had his zuk jumping 1 1/2 feet in the air trying to get over this ledge. I figured the 5.83 r&p would break first (those things are small) but everything held just fine. The driveshaft candy-caned ,but it didn't stop him. He rode the rest of the trip & drove it back to his house.

So, please keep switching to 'yota axles. Me & my friends love to pick up the "turds" for $40 each. It's always good to have spares, just in case.

Nowhere, The shaft was either an '84 or an '86---I'll find out when I see him next. I was going to trade him my '81 shaft for it 'cuz it would fit better (plus I need the longer one). We played phone tag for about a week & never really set up a swap day (we were also putting him in a clutch & installing the birfields + welding the frontend) so he went & had the one he had shortened so he could make the ride. The shortening shouldn't have mattered. He took it to a shop that makes driveshafts on a daily basis. In my mind, what twisted it was the air that he was getting. He was bringing all 4 tires knee-high, no sh!t. I'm really surprised that an axle didn't break.

I run the smallest tires of anyone I ride with. I break stuff, but that's half the fun. We need more stories about what kind of abuse zuk stuff CAN take. I've owned my skuzi for 4.5 yrs.---it's still all zuk. I continue to impress myself when I go riding. It's truly amazing what these beer-cans-on-wheels can take. Share your story.

If you don't mind me asking, what kind of terrain? About the only time I see mud is in my yard and driveway when we get a lot of rain. The rest of the time it's rocks, dirt and sand.
