In the past three years of owning my '92 YJ, I have broken the interior door handle on the driver's side 4 times. The part that breaks is the little white plastic clip that connects the connecting rod to the handle. It's not an expensive part to replace ($15 or so if I remember correctly from the dealership), but it is getting to be very annoying to have to go in and replace it all the time. The actual part that breaks is about the size of a 1/2" nut, but you have to buy the entire assembly to get the part you need. It happens in the winter every time. I suspect that the part is just getting cold and brittle and then breaking.
On the bright side, I can have the door apart and have the new part in, and then have the door back on in 5 minutes or less.
Anyone got an idea how to keep this from occuring all the time? Anyone else have this kind of problem? I suppose I could get a machine shop to make me a little piece out of steel or aluminum that wouldn't break. Surely there are many people that live in colder climates that must be experiencing this problem.
I'm gonna have to blame this on the DC engineers!!!
