So this past weekend we ended up buying a motorcycle. Unfortunately we haven't brought it home yet, but probably Saturday after all the paperwork is done. But that's a good thing though, it not here yet. I'm building a platform/shed for it so at least I'm not rushed for that.

Here's a pic. Kawasaki Vulcan 400

A linked braking system is possible. I thought about linking both to the rear pedal (front 80%, rear 20% porportioning) and leaving the hand lever as the front only. So, for stops just stomp down the pedal and only need to grab the clutch lever.

The problem with linking brakes is it takes away an option..either the front or rear individual for stops on hills, gravel travel management or squirrely situations where you'd use one and not the other. Sooooooooo, I haven't pursued linked brakes, though its still an option I may try out eventually.

Hmm, maybe I could use a dual pedal type setup instead of completely linked brakes. Where the 1st half of travel activates rear only, but when applied past the mechanical threshhold it applies the front brake as well. Lots of "what ifs" and "I wishes" lol

This just came out at the Milan show. I really REALLY hope they bring it to the States. I will be first in line to buy one:

That's seksy...and I don't even ride motorcycles.
I take it Aprilia is an Italian bike firm? Can't be common here...however I bet someone brings them in. MotoGuzzi perhaps? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

tx, bet your weather is better than mine...bastard. Which squadron/unit you with now? Saw an article about MWSS-373, my old wing unit, in Soldier of Fortune a while back as they were preparing to go to Iraq again. The crazy part is that a bunch of the Sgts and SSgts were KIDS I remembered as Pvts and PFCs. Hell at this rate I'd be a Gunny by now...no, I'd probably be the most senior Lance or Corporal in my MOS again... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

That's correct, they're Italian. Tim says I'm getting all bike snobby lol I haven't got loyalties yet. If the bike sauits me best, I'll buy it. I was looking for deakerships and there looks to be one or two in Dallas that I think I'll check out when we get there in February. I'll pick the salesman's brain there.

Sounds like something you definitely need to check out.

A few years ago when I worked at that place at the airport our chief pilot was a big MotoGuzzi guy. I'm still a wannabe Harley man but his bike was NICE. Not sure how it would translate or even relate but it seemed like while the Italians couldn't build a reliable car they sure could build a reliable and nice bike. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Oh yeah, didn't you go to school in San Antonio? My brother's working for Cisco Systems now and one of his picks for his first assignment is SA. You immediately came to mind as a somewhat reliable reference for the area. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Now back to shopping for guns /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/AR15firing.gif , drinking beer /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/givemebeer.gif, playing video games, and watching SciFi. Gotta love these lively married Friday nights!

Not to go too far off topic, but I just got an Armalite AR15 16" carbine. I have not had the chance to shoot it yet, hopefully this weekend. I'm hoping it ends up being good. The specs looked pretty decent, so I figured I'd give it shot. This is my first "evil black rifle"...

I like what you did with the bike, Monica, have you had an opportunity to ride that lately?

Monica likes guns.

I still have that AK. Nothing like holding your toy and knowing that somewhere a Liberal is crying because of it. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif I'm currently looking for some revolvers. Something in a .357 snubbie flavor as a CCW first.

*sigh* I miss guns /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/violin.gif

Riding the bike - we haven't gotten to ride since around the 12th of the month. We got first snow and the season closed until next April. So, now I've gotta get the bikes winterized. I'm also starting work on the switches, finally. So, the bike will be ready for the street when April rolls around.

I didn't get to riding on the street yet. I knew it'd be close between me being ready and the season ending. This was the last time out:

That's when I really got the shifting down. I was having some timing and reach issues with the throttle and clutch, but a little practice and it got smoother.

I gotta give you credit there chickeroo...

...I don't think I'm coordinated enough to ride a bike with two hands...and there you go doing it with one... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/RockOn.gif

...haha...Monica cusses like a Squid... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

#60 ·
/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif Thanks. I was cussing. I was hoping I was actually going to progress and brake better...I was wanting to get much faster this last session, but even the slower passes sucked. I kept locking the rear. So, I just called it quits. We ended up going riding on Tim's bike after that.

Well, since we get snow out the ears here, our gang is gung ho about hitting the slopes. It'd be awesome to have the space, money and place to play with a snowmobile...but, I guess we could all use the exercise of skiing and snowboarding /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

#64 ·
Yeah, but here's the question...can you ski or snowboard?

Not a lot of that in Texas...Monica the snowbunny from Texas... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/neener.gif

(Note that I live in Northern Michigan presently and have spent 24 of my 28 years in Michigan and can't ski or snowboard...I'd hybernate for 6 months if I could...) /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif

There you go with common sense again /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif I have skiied..skied...skeeed once in my life...we, three times if you cvount he three day lift pass for the trip...and I have never touched a snowboard in my life.

hehehe this is going to be a crazy winter /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif If the skiing thing doesnt workout, I'll just sit in the lodge and drink spiked apple cider and whatever else warms my soul

Have fun and don't break a leg.

My idea of winter fun is playing video games inside in the heat. Winter wheeling is the drive to work and winter exercise is walking the dog and blowing/shoveling snow.

Did I mention I hate winter? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/bs.gif

This has what to do with motorcycles? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Speaking of motorcycles, today is suppose to be winterization day for them, so as we're doing that, DH wonders off to change his battery....well, see my new post /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cussing.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cussing.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cussing.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cussing.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cussing.gif

Yeah but to do it Mad Max style you have to do it with a sawed off shotgun strapped to your back, a monkey or dog on the rear fender, and a ferile child riding on the handle bars... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif...and without any winter clothing, just worn leathers...

#71 ·
/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif That'd be a great scene.

Well, I have to go outside and help push the damn truck into the garage. Son..of a... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cussing.gif

The f unny thing is, the reason we stopped back at trhe house was I wanted to run the bikes a bit on a full tank of stabilized fuel, then run get some lunch, then come back and change the oil. But nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo......

I'm with MASS-6. Aprilia is starting to get pretty big here in the US... they build some really fast bikes. There is actually a couple of automatic bikes out there and IIRC there is even a company that will take your bike and convert it to automatic... the other option is alway a suicide shifter and foot clutch... probably not the best for a street style bike though.

I'm really really hoping Aprilia brings the Mana 850 to the States, it's an electric and cvt clutch, so you can either shift using the gear pedal, or the buttons on the handlebar, or you could have it in full auto and only need to twist the throttle and go. There's a dealership in Dllas and a few along the way down to Corpus, so, I may just have to stop at all of them! lol

BTW, what's MASS-6?
