Rally at the Capitol

From seeing the positive response to the Grim-Reapers post and the support to the rally in DC, I'm not sure who brought it up but it snowballed from what I posted last night (Nov 2), I will voluntare to help organize this. I know that jeep131 said in his post that he would help. I would like anybody in any clubs to bring this up to their club so that we can get more support. I also like utahjeepers idea of 50 smaller rallies in all the state capitols. This would be easier for people to attend. I think that one day every year would be great. I still think that it would be good to make it to DC, but I know that is difficult for alot of west coast guys. As for the toothless idiot getting interviewed all we would need to do is to keep them away and let the president of the club speak for the group. Also I think it would be a bad thing to have alcohol and guns at aany of these rallies. Please email me, or post any good ideas. I will try to get in contact with the blue ribbon coalition and the united four wheel drive association, and tread lightly if everbody is interested.

Just a thought for the name of this group - what we really want to be doing is including as many people as possible who want to support our cause. Furthermore, the name should not completely alienate environmentalists. Many are so set in their ways that anything with "4x4" or Four Wheel Drive" is immediately discredited. Furthermore, something that forms a catchy acronym certainly can't hurt :). If we want to include dirt bikes, snowmobiles, AND 4x4s, which would presumably be in our best interest, I think that something simple would be something like:

"Citizens for Fair Land Use Regulation"

OK, itried coming up with a cool Acronym, but failed. If anyone wants to give it a shot, "Environmentally Conscious Off-road" spells "ECO" when abbreviated. An acronym starting with "ECO" might help get us noticed.

Peter (?), if you want help with that website, let me know. I can also probably design a logo after we settle on a name. E-mail [email protected]

I agree with Ruben about someone composing a "all encompasing"
type of letter, suitable for other groups, politians etc.
Even if its just for the time being till things are more organized.
The author would need to to be familiar with the FACTS about past
and proposed closures and a whole lot more, maybe something has
already been written that we could use.
I'm willing to make the drive to Sacramento!!

/wwwthreads_images/icons/smile.gif Pretty good idea, Kiley. That name conjures up a picture of Mr & Mrs Normal and their 2.4 kids eating outdoors in a scenic Nat'l Park./wwwthreads_images/icons/smile.gif

I'm all for the Idea of rallies at our state capitols. It would be very dificult to get to D.C. without taking a week and a half of vacation (and I'm just in Minnesota!) but the state capitol is very do-able. Most people are only a couple hours from their state cap. and it could be done in a single day! To help bring in the support of non four wheelers maybe we could, in addition to the rally(s), have a food drive, or pledges for every mile driven, that would go to homeless shelters or homes for battered women etc. That kind of stuff always gets free air time and would bring more people to our cause! (It's also a good Idea to help out people in need anyways.) Just a thought.

Check out the Being Green column in this months Off-Road.com at http://WWW.OFF-ROAD.COM/vw/lcolumn/nov99.html. There's even a good idea for a name right there.
How does "Outdoor Recreation Preservation Society" sound?
With all this coming to a head, there should also be lots of letters being written to Congressmen and Senators.........right???

/wwwthreads_images/icons/smile.gif I still like Kiley's name a little better; it seems to give the right mental picture. REMEMBER....the scumbag got to the white house by being vague....like he said the words: "Medicare. Medicade, Education and the Environment" over...and over...and over. He never said ANYTHING about them....but let those who were listening attach THEIR OWN mental agenda to those words, and thus think he was going to do something for THEM! If you listen carefully to his speeches, he never says ANYTHING specific.....leting selfish Americans attach their own selfish agenda to whatever he is blabbing about. It works....the scumbag is a past master at lying and telling stupid idiot democrat liberal homosexual commies what they want to hear, and they think the scumbag is their hero./wwwthreads_images/icons/mad.gif

Good Job coming up with names. I agree with CJDAVE about liking Kiley's name the most so far. I say that we adopt "Outdoor America" as the name of the group. It includes everybody outdoors, conveys a nice message, and sounds like something thaat the average american would like to join. Does anybody else agree or disagree.

I am willing to put this on my Newly painted Jeep. If this is adopted, I will have my brother-in-law who does graphics to add it to my tire cover next to "Nothing to Plunder".

That would be great to have a logo to go with the name. Liberal democrats seem to want more government control in our lives. It seems to be contradictory to the premise this country was founded on. Our rights should end only when they infringe upon others rights. I have gone to Jeep Jamboree’s hosted by Jeep Jamboree USA and they set the perfect example of restore roads after use and fixing area’s damaged in natural disasters. If someone has connections with them, it would be wise to get them involved. They have had many years of experience with this and the towns that host them love it. Everyone comes out for the morning parade and waves to the Jeeps.

This whole thread has made me think to invite my locale news station to come and join a Jamboree. As humans I think we fear what we don’t know or understand. If Mr. & Mrs. America saw their local newscaster (that they watch every night and probably respect) on a trail ride with commentary it would open eyes. People need to know that we don’t go out there and tear up the country, scar the animals, and throw our beer cans in the woods. Most Jeepers I know will pick up trash they find out on the trail. This is not how the public see us.

Too often in this country you have a small group of people, that mean well but are uninformed, dictate to us what we can and can’t do. When I was growing up we aspired to be like the president, it was the quintessential position of respect and achievement. Now kids think it's a job that you can score chicks with. As a nation we don’t like to address the problems, only the symptoms. When there’s a shooting we want to ban all the guns instead of focusing on the issue, improving our work places / schools to handle mental strains people now have.

I'll let you know if this is adopted. I think it has a good chance. I like the "Nothing to Plunder" saying; we should have something like that. Any ideas. Also I am working on a picture for a decal or something like that. I was thinking of mountains ,with an eagle flying by, in the background with a lake in the middle with somebody canoeing, and in the foreground a green field with a family around a camp fire or picnic and their 4wd of to the side possible with dirtbikes by their SUV. I think this would be good because of the family part of it. Also it shows a the soft side of the organization. This should help to get the attention of people that aren't hardcore 4wd people, but the people that ssometimes get out, and who want to give their kids a chance to experiance this. Around the picture would be our name and our saying. I don't have a picture yet, but if I can draw one and get it scanned I'll post it. Also any other ideas would be great. We don't have to use my design if somebody can come up with something better. Tell me what you think.

The "Nothing to Plunder" is a good saying, I would watch out for negative catch words /wwwthreads_images/icons/wink.gif . CJDave mentioned good catch words in a earlier post. The word PLUNDER /wwwthreads_images/icons/mad.gif offers negative thoughts. /wwwthreads_images/icons/cool.gif

I am a Parrott Head and I have put this on rear of my Jeep. Seee at following web site:www.off-road.com/~wsjc , then select Jeep pictures, then Brian Wilson. It came from the song :"A Pirate Looks at 40". It is my favorite song. Maybe we could get Jimmy Buffett to take up our cause like he did with the Manatee(Sea Cow). Any way the cover picture is on this site. My brother-in-law used toon font to produce it.When I come out of the paint booth it will be Pacific Blue, a 90 Wrangler color. More in keeping with my nautical motif.

Now that we have a name, what about a date. Unless I'm blind, I didn't notice any dates yet. Also, all 4x web pages need to point to one to explain what this is all about. As soon as I know a date, I'll be faxing every local 4x shop so they can post it for everyone to see.

I agree. I consider myself reasonably intelligient, and "Nothing to Plunder", well, it seems vague. What does it mean? I see a 4x4 dude bitching because he has "Nothing left to plunder". That's not a good image.

/wwwthreads_images/icons/crazy.gif Tim....just a thought....in the last issue of the Jeep factory magazine there was a moonguy /wwwthreads_images/icons/laugh.gifwith a three-day old beard stubble./wwwthreads_images/icons/crazy.gif Everyone knows the happy face,/wwwthreads_images/icons/wink.gif how about using the "weekend" happy face on our decal and somehow integrate it with the outdoors. Also....despite the fact that we LOVE our dirt biker buddies, THAT IS something that the general public hates intensely,...off-road motorcycles, and the noise and damage they do. Hey....I appreciate the way you have taken this thread along, Tim. This is an important task. Just today they had a media thing with the dirtbag's lackey the davidian killer, and she was saying how important is is now to "Get those guns". Personally, I like what Dana said(I think it was Dana) way back on the other page...."I don't trust any government that I can't shoot at." I ESPECIALLY don't trust that lying scumbag and HIS missile secret-selling bunch of perverts./wwwthreads_images/icons/frown.gif

I agree with you about being allowed to keep our guns, but since the public doesn't seem to like them they could be a bad idea. Your probably right about the dirtbike thing also. We need to include them in the group, but we probably should keep a dirtbike off the logo if it is going to be a family thing (No offense). I like the happy face thing, but I'm not sure how to include it in the outdoors. The logo might be a hit with little kids who would influence their parents. If you can think of a way let me know.

/wwwthreads_images/icons/crazy.gif Oh, positively, we don't want to confuse this with the gun issue, because this is about ACCESS, and enjoying the OUTDOORS....with FAMILIES. Staying single-focused is good. Also, give this thread more time, start another so it doesn't get too clumsy, and see what develops on a logo. I have always thought that if you haven't thought up and rejected at least five ideas, you probably don't have the right one. Shift down a gear, and see how this comes together...ideas are gold. Ideas are where you find them./wwwthreads_images/icons/smile.gif

it might be a good idea if we consolidate these two stings into one. Either we move all discussion to this string, or bring it back to grim reaper's. Just a suggestion so we don't get split up in discussion.

Your right about moving it to one place. It would make it alot easier to keep track of things. Do you want to move to grim reaper, stay here, or start another post and stop using these. Dave, Mark what do you think.
