OK you expert welders out there, I need some help.
As part of the shackle reverse with YJ springs I'm working on, I'd like to remove the front spring hanger and replace it with a shackle hanger.
I have some extra YJ springs so I thought I could just cut the eye off the end of the spring and use it for a shackle hanger. I would then weld this spring eye shackle hanger onto the frame.
My question is, any problems with welding the spring eye (spring steel) onto the zuk frame (mild steel?)?
I guess I don't care about losing the spring temper since it will just be a hanger but I certainly don't want a weak or brittle weld that will break at the worst possible time.
BTW, I would be using a 220V MIG welder with .03 mild steel wire and straight CO2 gas. OK?
Thanks guys,
Paul
