I had my rotors turned and drums cut but I'm still getting a pulsating pedal. What would make the brake pedal pulse other than the rotors or drums? The mechanic said it would not be caused by air in the lines. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Did he check the runout of the hub surface? I would check this after the brakes still pulsated after I did the work and roadtested it... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Front hub conditon (bearings...)? Not setup correctly on the brake lathe? Warped rotors? Large rust deposits causing setup to be out of round (clean mating surfaces well)? Bent rim???

Can you narrow it down to the front or the back? Use some vice grips and block off sections of the braking system (use EXTREME caution, you'll be cutting braking power on the truck if you do this!) (vice grip hoses shut so that caliper/piston is not applying brake pressure) and troubleshoot where the pulsations are coming from?? If your brake lines are in good condition, seems you'd be able to clamp them with no ill effects.

I'd sugguest finding if it's FRONT or REAR related..

I have never seen pulsing brakes on drums so I'd be looking at the fronts.

Take the wheels off one side and re-bolt the rotor on using washer stacks to get it on tight. Spin it slowly while using something to indicate runnout. You don't even have to measure it, just something to get close to the surface and see if it wobbles, by watching the rotor compared to the "indicator" You can see wobble very clearly.

Do both sides of the rotor as the outer could be straight, while the inside may not be parralel to it.
