i have a 89yj when its in 4 wheel it pulls to the right really badly but only in 4 wheel, and there is a really nasty vibration. im guessing the vibration is possiable a u joint
on the front drive shaft but im not sure why its pulling to the right
my steering wheel is turned a complete 180 when in 4 wheel over 2 wheel
any help would be appreciated
thanks

Re: pulling to right in 4 wheel???

I would suggest jacking up the front end and moving your components by hand, if you don't see/feel anything obvious then you may have to remove the front driveshaft and test it by hand with the engine running in 4wd (so your vac disco engages). If you don't want to remove the front drive shaft, you can jack up the rear also.

If your u-joint is going and has plenty of slop, it may be binding there under power.

Re: pulling to right in 4 wheel???

ok im a newbie
and an idiot
i never thought to check the tire sizes
and sure enough the right rear tire was a 205/70/15 when all the others are a 215/75/15
as soon as i put the right size tire on no vibration, and no pulling to the right
damm im lucky i didnt blow the transfere case

Re: pulling to right in 4 wheel???

Been there before. Had a 78 3/4 ton chevy that had bald tire on the front when I bought it. So I hit the junkyard to find some rubber that you couldn't see the air in.

All I could find that was good was the wrong size. So I figured no problem, I just wont run it in 4WD until I get the right size on the front. Bad thought. It was OK until I hit the end of my gravel driveway. Then as I was riding a wild pissed off bull on the asphalt did I remember that it was a 203 ALLTIME 4WD.

Out came the front driveshaft until I got the tires matched.
