this may be a premature question, because I haven't had time to check it out yet, but...can anyone tell me how to take off a torque converter from the engine?
Three bolts holding it to flexplate, you have to rotate the engine to get to all of them. Be sure and keep the bolts, they are special length and if it is not an original Torque Convertor they may be metric thread (found this out on Ole Yeller which had obviously had a replacement/conversion in the past.)
It is heavy so when you unbolt it be ready for it to fall off.
They make a special tool to hold the convertor in place on the ring gear so you can turn out the bolts. I have always been succesful using a very large bladed screw driver between the teeth. Be careful not to booger the teeth.
The heads are on the motor side of the flexplate. If you can't see them then you will need to spin the flexplate (motor) by hand or leverage. There are three of them, so the motor may be turned to just the right position were none of the bolt heads are in view.
No need for a special tool if you have an old ring gear. If you cut about a 3" piece off of a ring gear and stick it in the starter pocket backwards, the teeth will mesh and wedge it in place as it turns.
