Off hand what is the spring rates for the Suzuki springs? Then what are the spring rates for 79' Jeep Wagoneer springs? I need to get those rates so that I can create a spring pack good for the Sammy. Ordered the t-case gears a few days ago, and I have all the axels, springs and driveshafts for the job. Should have all the mounts done and ready by this weekend, so thats when I plan to start. I will be keeping everyone in the loop as to what I am doing and so everyone can get ideas or how to's about the upgrade. I am sure I may have more questions to follow. Thanks in advance.

Re: project is about to begin.???\'s about spring rates

Acording to that the stock Sammies are:
88lbs for the rear
109lbs for the front
For the stock Wagoneer:
203lbs for the rear
524lbs for the front

I do believe I will NEED to change something there. What would one think about running 3 leafs front and rear with a trac bar on the rear axel? On that chart that would give:
262lbs for the front
122lbs for the rear
Hopefully with the new cage, bumpers, winch, and armor I will need that extra spring rate? Thank for the link too(made it a favorite). Any extra info would be great from anyone.

Re: project is about to begin.???\'s about spring rates

Hey Nick, Dont know if this will help or not but knowing the spring rateds of my old YJ's say 150-160 range they did the job real well with the cage, winch, spare tire 33 and tools. I still felt they were a litle soft so I wanted to hit a 175 range and this is what I will be setting up my new Coil overs for...

Re: project is about to begin.???\'s about spring rates

I am running Waggy front and rear springs---STOCK---
It all depends on the shock that you are using.
If your shock is too weak, even though the spring is stronger than the zuke spring, you still can bottom out..
I took 1 leaf out of the rears and 1 leaf out of the fronts and ended up putting them back.
The shocks I am running now are too week--Need to get some adjustable Ranchos.
Right now my rig rides like a Caddy. Problem is -- Too much body roll.

Re: project is about to begin.???\'s (update)

Did a little work tonight. Stripped the entire drivetrain out and place the upgrade stuff in place to get a feel for where its all going to go and where mounts are going to have to be fabbed up. If the fabbing goes well, I may have these bolted up this weekend and pulling it out of the garage by Sunday evening. Here is the rear:

Re: project is about to begin.???\'s about spring rates

You should plan on doing a Hi-stear, or atleast a x-over.--Not a z-bar like mine.
My bump stear is VERY bad.
My zook is a trailer queen, at least until I get some rancho shocks that are adjustable. and a x-over stear.
You can expect about 32" of articulation.

Re: project is about to begin. Pics....

Grumpy, the front springs on a Sami are about 255 lbs. Not sure about the rears. The SJ 410's fronts are
230. The rears are about 170 lb on a 410, no clue on a sami. those No's for the 410 are
from the FSM, the front was measured on a set of used samis.

Re: project is about to begin.???\'s about spring rates

Got more work done yesterday. Mounted all shocks and cut the fender off for tire clearance. Always wanted a flat fender look. Now I had to bite the bullet and do it. All that is left is steering, driveshafts and hooking brakes up. Oh and the t-case gears. If anyone needs to know what I have done more specifically please e-mail me and I'll tell one what has been done to incorperate the dana's and wagoneer springs.

My brother named this zuki as well as the last one, Dr. Evil. Last night he saw this one for the first time since the buildup started and he said that it was one "Big Nasty" sammy. So it has now been renamed.

Here's what I have done to accomidate the 79 Wagoneer 44's and Wagoneer springs.

The springs in the rear are the stock width apart on the frame. But the front hanger on the frame has been replaced with a custom hanger and moved foreward about 7". The rear had to be moved back so now I have a 6" frame extension/bumper to accomidate those with the shackle at the rear and springs in thier normal position.(center pin wise) Lower rear shock mounts had to be made and I used a Breeze upper mout to attach the tops of the shocks. With that I have shocks that extend to 32" and that leaves 4" of rod showing

The springs in the front have been outboarded to match the mounts on the axel.(about 6" or so) Rear front mount is in the stock location as in foreward to back but like stated they are outboarded. The front has been extended 4" and the mount is on the front of the extension/bumper. The axel has been moved foreward about 6" or 7" due to the reversal of the springs.(once again center pin) The front is also now a shackle reversal. The front shocks bolted up to the original shock mounts and I had to fab up some upper mounts. Same shocks as rear, and 4" of rod showing there also.

Upon initial inspections, The steering stops had to be adjusted out about 3/8" so the the tires did not rub on anythig. Trimming of the rear fenders wasn't necisary but I removed about 5/8" and then flat fendered the front fenders to accomidate the 35x16x15 boggers that are resting under it right now.Wheelbase is around 86" and the width of the front outside tires is 79", 77" in the rear. If I think of anything else to add as I go along I will be sure to do so. I still have brakes, steering, shafts and t-case gears to go.

Re: project...UPDATES...again

I cant say egnough good things about her and these types of situations. All I can say is that she loves to go as much as my son and myself love to go. By the way I only have about 40hrs in this swap and upgrade so far so it didn't take all of my time.
