Is it a jeep box or did it come from some other car. the box I have has 4 bolt mountings and 76 cast on the box. the pressure line is the front one and it should have a larger thread for it. Some later boxes had o-rings and metric fittings instead of the flare connection. I wouldn't waste my time with a cooler. full size trucks use this setup without one from the factory and I haven't heard of many pumps burning up from the stress of large tires.

It's a Saginaw box out of an '82 Camaro. Very tight and fast. However, it is only a three bolt box, which could cause me problems later, I know, but I plan to brace it. But, like I said, the price was right in more ways than one. The bolt pattern matches the Advance Adapters mounting plate that I just bought a year ago for $65 for my manual steering box, so I don't want to have to cut that off and then spend another $65 for the four bolt plate. If the three bolts pull out I'll worry about that when it happens.

I've got a camaro box, Too fast! Take it to a local small parts store and use it as a core for a CJ or Waggie box

Joel the camero box turns so fast that you end up all over the road. It has a tight ratio. I used it for a long time but I am going to the Caddy's variable ratio box.

You can also "fix" the ratio problem by using a shorter pitman arm.

 

I'm not positive on this but you should be able to interchange a 3-bolt box for a 4-bolt on your adapter. I used a '74 firebird box to mock up my setup, but its ratio is too fast also. I hunted around and found a shorter pit arm and it helped a little but I intend to replace the box. they must not have a lot of self serve junkyards where you are. My box was less than $30 and I could choose the one I want. Caddi box? Jim, is it a 4-bolt and what is the spline count on the input shaft? What years should I be looking for? Thanks

Look for a truck box. Preferrably from a full size Jeep.

To find out which is pressure line, put in some fluid and turn shaft

Doesn't have to be from a fsj, just my first preferrance for for upgrades, like my fsj Dana 44's that replaced my 27/30 combo. The ratio on the fsj box isn't going to get you in trouble like a Camaro box might by being too responsive. Another truck box might be similiar to the fsj's box.
