Re: Colorado Jeepsters, attention here.
This board has always enjoyed peace, not the bickering that other boards have. -- Until now, and I hope it's only brief - and I hope it's only going to be limited to this thread.
The founders of this "club" have made this all happen, that in itself is an accomplishment. I for one do not have the knowledge or even the desire to do something like this.
On the club site there's interesting pictures of rigs, a nice classified section, and technical articles -- all for free right now - someone's paying for the space - "Thank You" to whoever is funding it. Originally it was intended club dues would cover it, but there haven't been any lately.
Also "Thank You" to all who helped create it and continue to maintain it.
This forum place is a great place to exchange ideas and suggestions. At least I've always enjoyed it, I've learned quite a bit here, hopefully I've been able to help a few others with my limited automotive experience too.
The Raid was an opportunity for Jeepster owners to get together, to bad it's only once a year.
Thing's like that never go absolutley smoothly. Planning is important, and there always be disagreements about activities, locations, and even timing.
But - human nature being what it is, when it actually happens it's never as planned anyway. People with a common interest will always "get creative spontaneously" anyway. You can't hold them down.
The crucial thing is - did the folks who attended have a good time? Was it worth the drive?
Even if there were no other plans other than a date and place, the people would have made it fun anyway.
Did anyone get hurt by it?
Who cares whether a "club" actually has incorporated status, or for that matter even a clubhouse (OK - let's not argue about which treehouse we'll use.) It would be nice if we had at least a small window decal with the logo someone designed, with the website address on it, but again, is it really that important?
Here in LA it's very common to see "clubs" on the streets, we usually call them gangs. Even they have identifying markings, logos if you will. Sometimes it's their uniform, headbands, or even the type of gun they carry. I doubt if very many of them have a non-profit tax status, I've never seen their Articles of Incorporation either.
But even they have their internal problems.
I hope the AJC never gets to where they solve their internal problems and leadership squabbles the same way.
Kudos to all who planned it, all ideas at least were looked at, some were discarded, some dropped, some not followed through, so what?
John couldn't use the phone, (who knows why, I think he lives with his parents, maybe something happened there, it's none of our business,) but last I heard, telephones work in both directions. He did some leg work finding accomodations as I recall. That saved someone else far away from going up there in advance.
When someone asked that the video tape made from compiling other tapes also included the Logo, what's the harm in that? Wasn't it the AJC that held the Raid? It may be different if the AJC was trying to make a profit on the tapes, but then it shouldn't try to use a collection of private amateur film clips.
So what's the big deal?
Arguing can and will destroy the AJC, the only place - at least so far - where the common thread is Jeepsters.
This type of arguing makes me wonder, maybe I should just sell my computer?
