Re: Colorado Jeepsters, attention here.

Wow. This is the first I have ever heard of a Colorado affiliate of the AJC. I didn't even know that the AJC had affiliates. I think Hurc was just trying to get something started here in Colorado. Affiliated or not. There are too many of us here to not have something.
I guess the word just doesn't get out as well as some may
think. I would appreciate any info to be posted to the BBS. And Hurc, give us a little more time to respond to your ideas. Today is the very first time your post popped up on my computer. I think it is a great idea, even if it only involves the posting of "runs" that are open to other Jeepsters in the area.

Re: Colorado Jeepsters, attention here.

Do we need to form a 'new' or 'affiliated' club to get together and drive around in a Commando here in Colorado. I go wheelin' every other weekend and do the finest trails in SW Colorado and my group does not have a club or a name or a stupid tshirt. For not being a club, we sure do a lot more wheelin' than 90% of this group and NO BITCHIN'!!!! I'm not trying to be an ass, but if you want to utilize this board to organize Commando gatherings, I don't think anyone would have a problem. In fact, I would hope that this is one of the main purposes of forming this forum. If not, I'm off the keyboard and in the Jeep!
So, let's go wheelin'!

Re: Colorado Jeepsters, attention here.

New items that should be added to the by-laws of the AJC?

Thou Shalt not:

"Thou shalt NOT even consider even hearing of another club, and Thou shalt not make any references to the possibe existance of any other club.'s name under any circumstances."

"Thou shalt NOT form a group of local friends, communicate with locals, or call any such clandestine subversive groups a club without express written, notorized, and court approved permission to do so, and it must be attended by armed AJC gaurds at any gatherings."

Thou Shall:
Thou SHALL deny existance of any other clubs, whether it be for Jeepsters or not."
And, the most important one of all:
-----"THOU SHALL IGNORE all the above rules and communicate, meet, have a beer, have a Bar B Q with, or exchange ideas and tips with anyone they please."-----

We all owe a debt of gratitude to the founders and supporters of this site.

Now, for the serious side ---
I live in Southern California, near LA.
I think it would be neat if there was a way to communicate with some other Jeepster owners in the area, maybe meet for coffee once in a while, swap tall stories etc., or even do a few trail rides. (I know there are quite a few, I've seen them.)

But, to prevent anyone from taking offence at the word club, how 'bout forming a "Commando Platoon?" Commando Gang? Commando Bevy? Commando Herd? Flock? Gaggle?
Anything but "Club."

Actually, I think this entire thread has been silly.

Re: Colorado Jeepsters, attention here.

I don't mean to be a "whinner", but it has been stated in the past that this forum AND the "AJC" web site will be a members only site. So the theory of just Commando owners being able to find the info they seek on the net being free is going to be short lived. I have tried twice to join the club, both times with no avail(sp).
I think what John wants to do is totally innocent. So what if he posted it on the board, how else is he going to let people know? Like I said before, I tried to join the club twice, seems like they just don't want my money. First they're taking applications, then they're not, then they are again, now they're too big? I think if the club is having problems trying to "make ends meet", maybe they should ask John to help them out to get the ball rolling again. Seems there is someone with the time and energy to make something work, who can help 2 guys that have given their all with no more to give. Just my 2 pennies.

Re: Colorado Jeepsters, attention here.

This board has always enjoyed peace, not the bickering that other boards have. -- Until now, and I hope it's only brief - and I hope it's only going to be limited to this thread.

The founders of this "club" have made this all happen, that in itself is an accomplishment. I for one do not have the knowledge or even the desire to do something like this.

On the club site there's interesting pictures of rigs, a nice classified section, and technical articles -- all for free right now - someone's paying for the space - "Thank You" to whoever is funding it. Originally it was intended club dues would cover it, but there haven't been any lately.
Also "Thank You" to all who helped create it and continue to maintain it.

This forum place is a great place to exchange ideas and suggestions. At least I've always enjoyed it, I've learned quite a bit here, hopefully I've been able to help a few others with my limited automotive experience too.

The Raid was an opportunity for Jeepster owners to get together, to bad it's only once a year.
Thing's like that never go absolutley smoothly. Planning is important, and there always be disagreements about activities, locations, and even timing.
But - human nature being what it is, when it actually happens it's never as planned anyway. People with a common interest will always "get creative spontaneously" anyway. You can't hold them down.
The crucial thing is - did the folks who attended have a good time? Was it worth the drive?
Even if there were no other plans other than a date and place, the people would have made it fun anyway.
Did anyone get hurt by it?

Who cares whether a "club" actually has incorporated status, or for that matter even a clubhouse (OK - let's not argue about which treehouse we'll use.) It would be nice if we had at least a small window decal with the logo someone designed, with the website address on it, but again, is it really that important?

Here in LA it's very common to see "clubs" on the streets, we usually call them gangs. Even they have identifying markings, logos if you will. Sometimes it's their uniform, headbands, or even the type of gun they carry. I doubt if very many of them have a non-profit tax status, I've never seen their Articles of Incorporation either.
But even they have their internal problems.

I hope the AJC never gets to where they solve their internal problems and leadership squabbles the same way.

Kudos to all who planned it, all ideas at least were looked at, some were discarded, some dropped, some not followed through, so what?
John couldn't use the phone, (who knows why, I think he lives with his parents, maybe something happened there, it's none of our business,) but last I heard, telephones work in both directions. He did some leg work finding accomodations as I recall. That saved someone else far away from going up there in advance.

When someone asked that the video tape made from compiling other tapes also included the Logo, what's the harm in that? Wasn't it the AJC that held the Raid? It may be different if the AJC was trying to make a profit on the tapes, but then it shouldn't try to use a collection of private amateur film clips.
So what's the big deal?

Arguing can and will destroy the AJC, the only place - at least so far - where the common thread is Jeepsters.
This type of arguing makes me wonder, maybe I should just sell my computer?

Re: Colorado Jeepsters, attention here.

My last post explained whats needed and what has been done this year and that John might not have these qualities but if he does, he can call and we can see if he fits the key areas to help out....it's that simple. The other issues mentioned are those of many people, and unforunatley (for me) I addressed the issues for them.

Due to the large size of the AJC, (865 ), it has to become a bonafide legal organization. All of us will benefit from this.

As mentioned before, I don't have a personal grudge towards anyone in here.

If there is a problem, email me or better yet call.

Happy Trails, Jim Serr, AJC founder and president.
