Does anyone know how to safely remove the tape-like pin striping on a Jeep. It picks off if I use my fingernail, but I don't want to spend the rest of my life picking this crap off of my Jeep. Maybe a heat gun? I don't want to destroy my factory paing which is in fairly decent condition.
BTW, the striping is pink; it's gotta go.
Any suggestions welcome.

Try the hot setting on a hair dryer. It melts the glue just enough but doesn't hurt the paint.

3M makes a decal remover something like a really mild scotch-brite pad or buffer wheel which you can chuck in a drill and does not harm the underlying paint. You might find it in an autoparts store, but most auto paint supply houses can get it if they don't already have it on a shelf. It is also safe for use with clear coat.

Plastic razor blade. I used a metal one to do it once and only dug into the paint like 2x on the whole jeep, but I didn't care about the paint anyway, just hated the stripe. The razor worked great though, think a plastic one would work as well and not have to worry about digging into the paint.

My wife works in a store and they use something called Goo-be-gone. It does not seem to hurt the paint on the shelves. That stuff takes off the stickers, residue and the grime off the shelves. I would try it in a small area to see if it harms the paint.

Just giving some idea's /wwwthreads_images/icons/smile.gif

acetone works really well it will melt the plastic and make it rubber like. A very fast way is adhesive remover but that might soften your paint. the Acetone which is in some Nail Polish Remover works and a lot of labor.

I used to have a 3/4 ton 4wd with a pinstripe. 30 minutes after someone told me about the hairdryer trick I was finished.

Can you fix it?
I got a welder and a grinder. Heck yeah I can fix it./wwwthreads_images/icons/cool.gif
