All you east coasters better take notice of this, you don't have enough places to ride, this is important!:

Possible NJ OHV Park threatened. We need LOTS of letters/emails/phone
calls
FAST
What has happened is that the old Jungle Habitat Safari Park land in
West
Milford, NJ was purchased by the state about 14 years ago and has sat
idle
since. A local firm, X-treme Habitat, has made several proposals to
lease the
area and turn it into an OHV park that would be open to pretty much
every
mechanized form of recreation. The state says that it fits into its
goal of
offering a multitude of recreational activities to its residents and
visitors.
Now step in the "our way or no way at all" groups. They like to call
themselves environmentalists but I can't remember the last time I heard
about
any of their members really doing anything meaningful for the
environment
except fund lawsuits. They staunchly oppose this park... of course, its
not
their way of enjoying the outdoors. "State parkland was bought for open
space, not for development," said Jeff Tittel, the executive director
of the
Sierra Club's state chapter, who helped guide the state's 1988 purchase
of
the property. "This is not a friendly use of the land. The whole
800-acre
tract gets carved up. It's going to turn the land into a giant piece
of
Swiss cheese," he said.
Interesting.. Private property that was once a large chunck of
development
can't be developed for outdoor recreation? The land already has a 3,000
car
parking lot and a four lane entry road... thats not developed already?
Why is
he calling this "dead" land parkland? Call it green spin... If you'd
like to
see what the opponents have to say go to:
http://www.skyclean.org/frmnew.html
So... what can we do? Right now we need everyone to call the
following
numbers or fax a note to the number below addressed to folks listed
here and
it will be copied and delivered to each of them.
Walter Porter phone # 973.881.4460
Sonia Rosado 973.881.4417
Georgia Scott 973.742.3746
Lois Cuccinello 973.225.5416
James Gallagher 973.225.5415
Michael Mecca 973.225.5414
Peter Eagler 973.881.7891
FAX letters to : 973.742.3746 for all of them....one letter,
secretary
will make copies for all.
If you are a NJ resident and even if you aren't contact the local
representatives by going to: http://www.njleg.state.nj.us/
Here are some of the Assemblymen/Senators' emails.
Assemblyman Scott Garrett [email protected]
Senator Gerald Cardinale [email protected]
Senator Torricelli torricelli.senate.gov/webform.html
Senator Corzine corzine.senate.gov/comment.html

All one needs to say is that you support the X-treme Habitat proposal
to
create an OHV park at the old Jungle Habitat Park and that you would
most
definately come from whatever state you live in and spend $$ in NJ as
you
visited the OHV park.
Thanx in advance for all your assistance.

Hmm...interesting. I hear the east coasters complain all the time about lack of places to go, yet hardly anyone wants to bother to look at this item. Doesn't surprise me, thats what is the big problem with the OHV community as a whole, APATHY. I live a couple thousand miles from there, but I'll be writing.

Its my understanding that this plan may be geared towards ATVs and dirt bikes, but if there is a lot of pressure from the 4by crowd, something may happen in that direction. But it definitely won't if no one gives a darn! /wwwthreads_images/icons/mad.gif And nothing will happen if the GAGs have their way.

Stoopid Greenies. Anyway, here is what I am sending, if anyone wants some help starting a letter.

To Whom it may concern,
I would like to express my support for the X-treme Habitat proposal to create an Off Highway Vehicle park at the old Jungle Habitat Park. I grew up in the Northeast, and will be returning there in a few months.

Having found the fun and excitement of off-roading in my Jeep in California, I have been looking for areas in New Jersey and other parts of the Northeast where I can go off-road. If there was a OHV park available, I would most definitely come from Pennsylvania or whatever state I end up living in.
Of course, this would mean spending money in NJ on Gas, food, lodging, etc.

Since the land is already developed somewhat, and was in the past, it seems a waste to not allow for a multitude of recreational activities to your residents and visitors. There are already many miles of hiking and camping available in the Garden State. Please promote the use of this land for alternative uses, especially off-road vehicles.

Most off-roaders adhere to the TREAD Lightly creed:
Travel and recreate with minimum impact
Respect the environment and the rights of others
Educate yourself, plan and prepare before you go
Allow for future use of the outdoors, leave it better than you found it
Discover the rewards of responsible recreation

We enjoy the land and want to use it.
We do not wish to destroy the land, and contrary to what some groups say, our hobby does not destroy it.
We spend time doing trail repair, litter pickups, etc.

Please support all of your constituents, including the people who enjoy responsible off-roading.

Sincerely,

Hope it helps. But if the folks in NJ don't get off their collective A$$ the cause is lost.
Some were surprised and thought it a big deal when DC pulled the recent anti-hunting Ad.
Others were concerned about the WTC firefighter statue change, and that got nixed.
I would have thought the people on this board would have learned something about using public pressure to get results from those two issues.
The greenies count on you sitting on you hands/wwwthreads_images/icons/mad.gif, and that's the reason they attack you.
Your conduct helps them get their way.

It's time to get involved boys and girls.
/wwwthreads_images/icons/frown.gifOr put purty little tires on it and attack the speed bumps at the malls.
IT IS YOUR SILENCE THAT IS YOUR PROBLEM !!!

PEACE !! /wwwthreads_images/icons/smile.gif
