Hi,
Right now I'm trying to get a raptor, but for my second quad I would really, really, really like for either the scrambler 500 or the scrambler 400 2X4 to be it.I will be riding in dunes and trails such as Glamis,dumont,and my local trails so are either of the machines good for my riding conditions. I have a lot of other questions (so bare with me)such as:

1. Are they reliable?

2. How is the handling?

3. Whats the stock horsepower and speed for both of them?

4.In stock conditions Can both of them beat a stock 400ex?

5. What are the best aftermarket tires for them, I want something that is 6-ply?

6. Which one has lower maintainance?

7. What are the best aftermarket shocks for them?

8. Does any aftermarket company make a big bore kit for the scrambler 500?

9. I know there is a 440 big bore kit for the scrambler 400, who makes them and for the people who have the 440 kits how much of a horsepower and speed gain did you gain?

10. What other mods gave the best bang for your bucks?

11. Is there any other thing that I have to watch out for on either machine like maintainance problems or anything else?

12. I've seen on some peoples signature that say that their scrambler does over 60 horsepower and what mods did you put on to gain that much horsepower and how much of a speed gain do you gain?

And also is any one running 23" and 22" tire on either one of the scramblers.If so tell me how it performs.Also what are the best sand paddles front and rear for the scramblers I want some thing that is v-shaped for the rear and what size should i get?One more thing what is everybodies scramblers websites or photo pages(photo albums).

you may not get much of a response about this one, i dont think there are many Scrambler owners around here lately. i havent got to be around one much, but they seem like a decent quad, just a little on the heavy side though.

I cant really answer any of your aftermarket questions. But when i worked at the dealership i had an scrambler 400 4X4 for a demo. I wasnt allowed to work it so i just tuned the cluthes and carb the best i could stock. I did gain some mph on the top end after i tuned everthing. What i noticed the most was the low end. They are a little on the heavy side but i have seen more then one flying. I did do some performance work on other 400's but mostly exhaust and clutching. I hope this helps some what. But like i said i wouldnt be able to help that much.

Can someone please bring me a hammer my 33's just ate my fender again. Damn i need more lift.

i believe 22in. (rear) and 23in. (front) tires are stock on them

I have a '00 Scrambler 400 2x4. There definately isnt much Polaris owners here. The 400 and 500s come with a Fox Shox stock. They need it, as they are VERY heavy. I think my HP is 37 stock. There are a few hard core Polaris aftermarket shops and they take these quads very serious. They are rockets. Mine is stock except for a K/N and the air box drilled out for more air. The only thing I have broke is the shifter rod and I have owned this for about a year and a half. As for the aftermarket parts, they can be spendy. I will soon get a clutch kit and pipe. Their also are kits on the market to get these things in the 65+hp range. The biggest problem with this quad is the weight. Its just so damn heavy! But it does haul ass. I can hang with my buddies '00 Banshee. He is stock also. I do a lot of dune riding here in NV, and thats where the weight shows up. But I will soon get another one. Polaris is putting out some special edition Scramblers. They are about 60lbs lighter (finally!) and have different colers and cooler graphics. Well this is long, hope it helps.

i have a raptor and a 01 scrambler 500 4x4. if you will have a raptor you will already have one of if not the best sport quad out there, why waste your money trying to make a scrambler into an equal. use the scrambler for what it is intended. i use the scrambler in the mud and snow or just the lazy days on the trail and the raptor for the kick-in-the-ass days (most of them)
