Hey:

I am looking at buying a 2004 1/2 Polaris 400 or 500 HO. However some reports of problems from engine braking have started to surface. Dealers says no big thing as fixes are done at 300km at shop. But what happens after 300 km and problems still there? Reports that I heard are that atv's have problems with engine braking in HI gear with enigine lugging at low RPM. Who can shed some light on this?? I can get the bikes with EB removed if I want?

Haven't seen any EBS problems. We've been selling lots of Sportsmans w/ EBS. The 400 does not come with EBS from the factory if you think you don't want it.

2004 1/2 bikes come with EBS. You have to pay to have it removed, I am told. Can't find many dealers that have 2004 bikes in stock in Canada. Looks like they have been good sellers up here.

Just from the dubious past that Polaris has had up here until lately, I am slightly concerned the small problems could turn to be big ones. I like the Polaris ride and the bike looks great. As far as I am concerned, Honda still owns the market in the reliability area. But they make you pay for that in all ways.

I still think that I will go with a Polaris Sportsman but if something goes wrong with it, I intend to make sure that the problems will be posted on this and any other website that ATV rider use.

Sportsman 500s have come equipped with EBS for more than 5 years. Sportsman 400s DO NOT have EBS, not even 2004.5.
