Hello everyone. I have been reading a lot of the posts on this site and I must say that there seem to be a lot of people willing to share lots of information.

I have a 94 Chevy Extended cab Stepside Z71. (that's a long name :). Anyway I was reading a lot about tire and wheel sizes. Many people are/were having the same type of problem as me. I was running 285/75/16's on the factory wheels with no problem. When I got my BFG AT's I decided it was time for some new wheels, so I put them on a set of 16x8 AR Nitro's. They rub every time I make a left turn. It didn't do that with the same size tire on the factory wheel.

I figured what the heck, I always wanted to lift it so now is the perfect time for that 4" suspension lift I always wanted. Well, that time is now and its off the 4x4 shop. I'll definitely put some before and after pics up and should have plenty of questions because I think this is only the beginning.

howdy Jax.... you do know, that as a new member, you are required to pledge the old hands and higher ranks of this board. so, your first duty is to start a sign up sheet, then the deciding members will jot down the mod that you are to provide to him/her. once that mod has arrived on his/her doorstep, you will recieve one vote towards your permanent induction here. should you fail to complete the task, you will be black listed on the WWW.

.....jk, /wwwthreads_images/icons/wink.gif hope you enjoy the board!

well with all tht welcome aboard crap aside, you can fit 287/75/16s on a stock setup...i.e. stock heightAND STOCK RIMS OR THE EQUIVELANT. they won;t fit if you change the backspacing or width. if you've alrady got the $$$$ in the rims its time to toss a lil more towards the lift of choice. That must really suck for you "well i need it to go so i "HAVE" to put on a lift" i wish i had that problem.
Anyways, welcome to the Chevy full-sized board. if you've got a question, one of us has an answer. usually not me, but someone here does. After a while you'll get to know just about everything there is to these guys. and gals. Shorts and Shewheeler know thier stuff. oph yeah, and 40 days till resurection_Joe gets his tires from Shawn.

WELCOME
IMO 285's on a 4" lift are going to look a little small
OOP's new problem "I have to buy Bigger tires"
And so it begins,,,,
Everyone here knows where this is going /wwwthreads_images/icons/wink.gif
"Now with my bigger tires I need new gears"
"heck while they are doing the gears this would be the perfect time for a locker"
"jeez I guess if I am going to all this trouble I may as well go for a 6" inch lift"
Remember it is a fine line between Hobby and mental illness /wwwthreads_images/icons/laugh.gif

Honestly, if you only intend on running the 285's on your new wheels I would just use a 2"-3" lift, it will stop your rubbing problem, It is less expensive and easier to install, and you will still be able to park in the garage/wwwthreads_images/icons/blush.gif

yea scooby is right. theres a guy on this board AJMBLAZER with 285s on 15x8s with the rancho 2-3" kit and he has no problems. best of all its only like $500 as opposed to the $1000 for the 4" lifts. and i have to ask - the JAX part of your name - youre not from jacksonville, florida are you??? cause that were i am, just wondering. there is another guy on the board (cant remember his name off hand) that lives here in jax too.

16x8's. I am having problems with keeping an alignment for more than the bumpy road getting to a trail, but other than that it is working fine. I am going back to the factory 16x7's with the 285's though.

Yeah, I was thinking the 285's might look a little small, but I will have to see. I can probably unload the 285's on someone with the factory wheels since they seem to work fine on a narrower, stock backspacing wheel.

Like I said before this is only the beginning. I can't wait to spend all those $$$ on gears, lockers, tires, etc.... :)

As for the question of "wealth and taste". I have great taste, but not the wealth.

No, I'm not from Jacksonville. I just use it as a handle, the name is Jack, hence JaxZ71 (Jack's, get it)

Thanks for the comments all and I'll be checking in to see what everyone is up to

Scooby is right about the modification dominoe effect. We all started off with that one simple mod. Bug guard, tinted windows, new floor mats, antenna ball, curb feelers, whatever. Then it evolved, we were hooked. All of us thought we could control it at one time or another. Of course it has cost us jobs, friends, loved ones. But we have all gained things like jobs, friends, better loved ones. There is no 12 step program but instead 3 rocky passes, 4 mud holes, 2 dirt roads, 1 steep hill, and numerous curbs to get over.

Welcome aboard.

Sorry about that "man of wealth and taste" thing. It is a reference to the song "Sympathy For The Devil" by the Stones. First line of the song.... "Please allow me to introduce myself, I'm a man of wealth and taste". It is supposed to be The Devil singing.

I knew that was the opening line of Sympathy for the Devil. I have Beggar's Banquet on an album. Now I just have to dust off the turntable and give it a spin :)

I'm having a great time here so far. Y'all are fun

Hey Jax... anyone who can appreciate a good Stones tune (on vinyl no less/wwwthreads_images/icons/shocked.gif) is certainly more than welcome in my book...

btw... for you younger folks, record albums (those black, round things with a hole in the middle and lots of little grooves on them) are sometimes referred to as vinyl./wwwthreads_images/icons/wink.gif

Actually, 285's are the same height, if not a touch taller, as 33x12.5's, only 1.25" narrower. 285/75R16 works out to about 33x11.25R16. There's an IFS Suburban in the reader's rides section of the http://www.Off-Road.com/Chevy main page that has a 4" lift on it and 285's on the stock 16x7 rims. Looks good to me, but I think some aftermarket 16x8's would be better with that much lift. I like the advantages and looks of taller/narrow tires anyways though.

Just a thought.

whats the hell did that swede do to our board. theres letters on there that I"ve never seen...nor has my quadralingual girlfriend...thats just nuts.
Shorts hit the nail omn the head here. we seem to find a way to manipulate the most well structured thread into something that is totally out of place in the "off-road" BBS
