HOW!!!
this pinion shaft isnt human, it doesnt feel pain, I cant reason with it..
I CANNOT get it to come out, the axles are out, the carrier is out, the housing is on teh work bench, the driveshaft yoke is off, and ive tapped ( ok HIT) the pinion trying to push it back thru..

am I going to have to get a press or is there an easier way?

well, I dont want to mushroom the end of the shaft..

i laid a hunk of wood on the floor and slammed the axle pinion first into it.. it came out after a few beers

it's sort of still a cj thingy....

I am in the middle of my DANA 30 right now. Put an old nut on the pinion and hammer away. I used a 2lb sledge and it took several strong wacks. The old nut will keep the pinion from cracking your concrete floor when it explodes from the case.

BEER, thats whats wrong!!

let me drink 10 or so and go and try again...

Ill try it again, but I think Ill end up using the press at work.

Im trying to save the gears for a swap later on, so i dont want to risk any damage to the shaft..

it came off, after only 3 beers suprisingly..

I used a 3 lb sledge, and hit it harder than I really wanted to, but its a VERY hard alloy, and its undamaged..

I just got home .but I blocked up the case and put a large piece
of oak on the pinion and hit it with a sledge hammer.

Hey Tom . Just checked out your website. GREAT job . I guess the Jeep going up the hill had a litle too much traction , huh ? I am curious as to how you find the Bestop seats in your CJ for all around comfort etc... I need a pair for my CJ and am thinking of the same as you have .
