pinion nut

just wondering if anyone knows, does it go clockwise or counter clockwise to loosen it? Its a 10 bolt rear end on 82 suburban. Stupid pinion seal dumped all my oil out last week. :-( My impact cant handle the 3/4" socket so I have to do this one by hand. They say its only tighten to 150 ft/lbs but seems like a lot more. Just want to be sure on the direction before I apply maximum pressure, ie chain hooked to wrench and car pulling it -Greg
