I got some free 2" ENT tubing (flexible PVC conduit) and ran it from my Throttle body intake hose (attached with duct tape for a good seal) through the engine compartment, under the jeep and up out the back. The air cleaner housing just un-bolted and I attached that to the end of the ENT and set it between my seats for now but will permenitly mount it later. The ENT is run by the frame rail to prevent damage and is not close to any heat producing items.
This modification is completely resersable because I did not cut anything (yet ... ha ha)

Everybody this guy has never been to my house and never talked to me in person, that's a mod i'd come up with. Did you waterproof my distributor and tie your other vent lines into it? If not your still going to have problems with deep water, especially if you have an auto tranny. They fill with water and are toast. You need to pull an auto and partially take it apart to move the breather line. It's a pain but either do it now or rebuilt the tranny later.

That's funny as s#$t !!! Well I guess someone must have come up with a jury-rig like this before!!!
The breather lines for the x-fer case, transmission and diff's will soon be modified - but I have a different plan for them. When I finalize it, I will post it.

1. After lookin' at it for an hour or so
2. I applaud the effort, but not the install,
3. I can just see the Jeep [*]draggin' bottom, [*]Hookin' rocks, [*]Limbs pokin' holes, [*]Pipe hittin' the exhaust system,
4. Causing all sorts of mayhem to the pipe,
5. And the engine suckin' mud, silt and water,
6. I think it's a disaster waitin' to happen,
7. As it gives a false sense of safety.

worst case senerio is that the line gets crushed or ripped off... no problem, I would just put the air filter box back inside the hood! New smurf (ENT) would be a monster garage freebie!

The ENT runs alongside the frame and also through the transmission skid plate. It is well protected for mud-bogging and sugar sand, but I agree with you - it could be damaged/ripped off. (see above)

I think what LEVE is saying is that if the pipe gets torn off under the jeep while sitting in water, then it will act as a reverse snorkle.. it will suck water from the ground and put it in your engine.

I agree with Larry, in situations such as this:

too much of the hose would be completely submerged. Any pin hole or crack will suck in water or debris could damage the hose and you may not know it till it's too late. On the flip side, that hose looks to be pretty stout, may hold up well. Be careful.

I have a goose-neck in the tube right before it hits the TBI housing. To make the sysem better I could install a water trap and petcock sp? in the bottom of the goose neck with a water sensor connected to an engine kill switch. Then the engine would cut out before sucking in water and once I get towed to dry land I could use the petcock to drain the water.

This is what jdogg and I run in the river. While a full snorkel would be a little better, this is less cumbersome, and does not require any wholes cut in the exterior of the vehicle. It pulls air from under the dash, so unless your sitting waist deep in water (yep, done that) your pulling clean air. Never mind the duct tape. Silicone gel works better, it was a temporary fix that just stayed for awhile. The rest of the air cleaner ports are sealed and capped so that the air has to go through the snorkel.

Nope, never been to fort myers. I was thinking the same thing leave. I had my battery cables run under the jeep and 1 got ripped off. I'd cut a hole in the fire wall and run it through there if you don't want to cut an obvious hole. Also i'd use a hose clamp and rtv to seel it instead of duct tape. That's defientally some gheto fab that i used to come up with and now after realizing the conisquinces cringe at. Do it right, spend the $$ and get an arb snorkle or atleast do a decent pvc jobber. I've thought about having one bent out of exhaust pipe but i'm not sure how that would work, might be worth investagating. Gheto fab blows, don't do it no matter how much of a good idea it is at the time.
