I'm moving there in a few months and I am "emisions systems challenged". Do they have the sniffer there and/or inspections?

The Phoenix metroplex, which now, for all practical purposes, includes most of Maricopa County, plus Tucson has emissions testing. No where else in Arizona has it, Thank God. I kinda think there might be a revolt in the hinterlands if they try to foist emissions testing on us rural-types. In the REALLY rural parts of AZ, some people put emissions testing right up there with communism and Bin Laden. Ya better not mess with their guns and you'd be real smart not to mention the "e" word either.

I suppose anyone could find out a lot about it on the ADOT or DMV website or maybe Maricopa County's website. Whatever. My connection is real slow right now or I would go lookin' around for you.

Thanks for the info. Can I get the vehicle tagged in a rural area, or do I have to tag it where I live. I know I won't pass, mine has less emmissions stuff than a 1970 chevy. I might have to trade the Samurai for a Sidekick, I hate the thought, but I have to do what I have to do. Thanks agian y'all.

Well, actually, maybe there IS a way to help you out.
YOu would have to "kinda" move into one of the rural counties and then transfer your title there with inspection, etc. No biggie. Then, of course, you could move down into Maricopa County. You'd be exempt for your first full year of residence. Do you have another vehicle that you are going to register or just the Sammi? We DO NOT BRAK LAWS. However, we know just about every loophole the law allows law-abiding citizens such as ourselves.
Afterall, if you can deduct the entire cost of an H2 on your 2003 taxes, what kinda loophole is THAT? Beatin' emission LEGALLY seems pretty tame compared to that scam.

Re: residence

Thanks, but I'm lookin' to go into Law Enforcement there in Phoenix or Mesa. Wouldn't be a honorable thing to do. I guess I'm just gonna try to trade it for a Sidekick. Do you have one you want to trade for?

Re: residence

Trying to find a Samurai around here that would pass emissions would be almost impossible. And trying to find a FI Samurai, even worse yet. At least with the Kick, it is close to the Samurai in driving and size and is FI. Thank you for the ideas though, I appriciate them.

I don't think it would be that hard to make it pass. if it runs well it can be tuned to make passing emissions. If it doesn't pass it can only run better by making it do so...especially with such a small motor. You don't have the thing hopped-up do you, as far as engine mods?

My 78 CJ has a good deal of HP and has cats only... no more egr or those exhaust manifold contraptions. It gets lower emissions than my FI Astro Van because it is tuned well.

I'd say if you like the sammy and want to keep it, make it work. I'd go on a limb to say it would be less work to make it pass than trading/selling it and then possibly dealing with the same problems.

Congrats on the move though, I like to see people doing well in life.

Re: residence

How far away from Phoenix are you dave? I would really love to keep my zuki, but no cat, no EGR, modified carb, it's doomed. I will bring it out there if I know I could either make it pass, or trade it for a kick. I won't have the available cash on hand to do a EFI swap once I move out there, moving sucks. Thanks for all your inputs, I am beginning to have hope that I might be able to keep my zuki again.

Re: residence

Shawn - whatever you do DO NOT get hooked up with DaveAZ....

My son got to hanging around him and went from a frame-dragging lowrider S10 noisemaker to a lifted locked geared exo'd rockcrawling maniac....

Seriously, they eat, sleep, breath Zukes out there....

Re: residence

That's TERRIBLE Toyguy! It's such a shame to see our youth so shamelessly torn from us like that! Do ya know if Dave will let me park my RV there so I won't have so far to go? I think I'm gonna keep the Samurai, I'm leaving it's fate to Dave(no pressure or nothing).
