Well, in my world, the perfect 350 would be a 400 /wwwthreads_images/icons/wink.gif. Now, since we're not talking about a specific purpose, I'll say that alumimum heads, rods, intake, AND block would all be a part of the "perfect" 350. WHY? Well, weight is your enemy under almost all circumstances. And even when you do want some weight (like in a light CJ on rocks or snow), you don't want it all on JUST the front axle. Needless to say, this all aluminum motor wouldn't be practical from a $$$ perspective (although the all-aluminum LS1's are starting to show up in boneyards/wwwthreads_images/icons/smile.gif), we are after all talking about the "perfect" engine!

An aluminu intake, heads and block. Also a roller cam and rockers. Pete Jackson "quiet" gear drive. Why roller? less friction makes more power.

/wwwthreads_images/icons/tongue.gif Somewhere back in the dusty archives of this here BBS, there was a big discussion on 350 small blocks,; where to find'em, what to do, and how to make them live longer. In fact, I think the thread was about making a small block live (never let it idle, it eats the cam up)./wwwthreads_images/icons/laugh.gif

I never believe any statistics unless my moonguys /wwwthreads_images/icons/crazy.gif/wwwthreads_images/icons/wink.gif made 'em up themselves.

nice 4 barrel ( like the edelbrock perfomer dyno matched series), alum intake (planed), bored.30 over, roller rockers, dyno matched cam, hedders to flowmasters right on out..

sneakie pete would be nice, but it'd shorten engine life, easy to install, fits between the carb and intake, after all, we're talking "ideal" here, right?
TH300 auto tranny with 3.73's in the back, nice torque converter, stall kit..

whammo!!

My perfect small block chevy isn't a 350. It would use a 400 block bored .030 over to 4.155, forged 350 crank, LT-1 "pink" rods with polished beams, 10.5:1 compression forged alum pistons, 2.02 heads (aka "camelback" or "fuelie" heads), with TPI. This "perfect" 377 small block is in my garage, I need the induction system and it will be complete. Yes Team Rush I did drill the steam holes into the 2.02 heads. I don't know where you've seen people not drill the holes but it is SOP for anyone who knows what they are doing with a 400 block build up.

the perfect 350 for me would actually be a 351 windsor./wwwthreads_images/icons/smile.gif

but as for a the ideal wheeling engine (nothing is perfect), it all depends on what terrain you are traversing.

my ideal engine (it really doesnt matter what it is, its how you build it) would be a mild cam (torque peak below 2500 rpm), reliable fuel injection, and low restriction exhaust. you do not have to get too wild to build good low end torque, your engine will be more reliable and cost less as well.

I'd have to say it'd either be a 360 or 401 bored decked and balanced... Spitt'n fire and ridin higher. Coupla wheelies here and there couldn't hurt either...
