For a grand a good paint job....Yuk Yuk Yuk, with that said, do a lot of prep work on the Jeep first, since they dont, the more time you spend the better the job....
If you dont mind a drip or a run here or there and lots of over spary you will get a $1,000.00 dollar paint job....
Now if you wanted a real pro job $1,000 would be the down payment.
For a Jeep just to bang around in and from 50 feet it looks good...Macco....

What Tincan said and don't change the color- that will cost even more- unless you don't mind the interior/exterior 2 tone look, in which case MAACO is your shop.
Coupla things about doin your own prep work, don't use rattle can primer nothing sticks to that crap but rattle can paint-and most shops won't touch a vehicle they suspect has been sprayed with that junk. If you have NO rust, you can do a quick color sand using a 3M pad- like those you find in most folks kitchens. Remove all of the trim, to include exterior mirrors, door handles, roof rack and the rubber strips up there, fender flares (Sport models) that you can (and don't want painted) and any decals/stickers cause MAACO won't for the advertized cheapo paint job.
A good 2 stage paint job(not a show quality) on the average door dinged xj should run about $3-4K. If you're gettin it done for a grand keep in mind it will look it.
I checked your profile, I see you have a 99. How bad is the paint?

I don't know if you want a nice, shiny rig or what but if you just want a tough looking rig, I've seen some cool paint jobs done with Olive Drab out of a paint can. Also bed liner looks sweet and it not very common (do a search here about it).

Just some ideas.......

Remember, when someone else is doing the work, you get what you paid for.

MAACO-everything I ever heard about them was negative. But when Hurricane Opal dropped a pine tree on my Jaguar XJS-HE Coupe in '94, the insurance only paid out $4000 to have the roof fixed. I wanted the whole car painted so I went to the local MAACO and checked out their work. I went several times at different times of the day, and really eyeballed the cars coming off the line. In reality, they looked great. Some overspray on trim that was not taped off well, but no runs or orange peel. So they got the job.
For $2200 they fixed the roof and painted the whole car with their top of the line polyurethane or Imron or whatever they call it.
I had stripped all the chrome off the car and removed the lights and bumpers.

Let me tell you. I don't think it would have looked any better had it been done custom. For the next 6 years, the car was seldom garaged and the day I sold it, it still looked as good as the day it was painted.

Go figure. Maybe some MAACO's are better than the average, I don't know. But the one in Lawrenceville, GA does a jam up job.

Now it is time to get the 83 Pini Spyder painted. They want $800 for the best paint. I think I'll let them do it.

Man, yall don't have cheap paint jobs in your areas? Here in Texas, we have several places to go. I went to Sheid automotive, simular to Macco but cheaper. Got full paint job and removed all hail damage and 5 year gauranty. Granted this may mean I will be getting a pait job in 5 years, but total was under $750. Looks great, except missed 3 small dents, and a very small amout of overspray on bumger guard. Was deffinatly worth the money. I didn't remove anything, they just taped it off. but would have only cost extra 300 for them to remove. (didn't have money at the time) Had 4 other quotes range from $2300 - $7400. Check for hole in the wall places or shop where cars have lots of artwork on bad side of town. Just my 2 cents.

I'm having trouble imagining what could be so bad about the paint job on a 99 XJ. If you're serious about putting those 35's on, I'd say deal with the paint you have now and spend the money on getting good suspension mods. Just my opinion, but I'm not big on paint anyway.
