I was at the local Burger King today; having lunch before driving the Cherokee to the local 4wd track. (I'm working the night shift for the boiler engineer who is on vacation; so I get to do these things during the week!

) Anyway, I'm sitting there minding my own business, when this old man in a 2000-02(?) Chrysler Concorde pulls into the handicapped parking spot and suddenly accelerates, jumps the curb and PLOWS into the side of the restaurant!!!!!!

He hits the building and, Thank God, he recovers and hits his brakes before knocking the side of the Burger King in where I'm sitting!! I'm unhurt (as was he and the others in the Burger King) but cannot believe something like that could happen. Just goes to show you that ANYTHING can happen at ANYTIME. I had absolutely no time to react, even though it happened RIGHT BEFORE MY EYES!!

Oh, yes, I did manage to go have some fun with the XJ so was a good day all things considered.

Thanks, but it is ok, IMHO, to poke a little fun when nobody gets hurt. Turns out that the old man said his foot slipped off the brake pedal and hit the accelerator. His wife told me he had just gotten off the dialysis machine at his doctor's office. She has been trying to convince him to stop driving; he is in his late 70s.

Glad to hear all were well, I got pasted by a guy who was 93 years old back when I was 19, they oughta take away there license when they hit 60. With no exceptions. Here are a few picks of my car after he drilled me. The car he was driving was a Ford Granada 2 door.

I don't think I'd throw it to where everybody over 60 has their license confiscated, however I'd easily approve of yearly testing that tests things such as reaction time, night vision ability, depth perception, judgement, etc...

I know, more buearocracy sucks, but then again it would likely help keep a few unsafe drivers off the road.

I personally want to see a special license for 4x4 and/or other vehicles that handle differently from cars... SUVS, etc... Help keep the idiot yuppies who don't have a stinkin' clue how much an SUV differs from a car out of the things...

Getting ridiculous around here with SUV's and idiots who can't operate 'em. That's all you see in ditches anymore in winter too... I wonder why...

Seen some lady cruise a lifted Excursion into a Target parking lot and clip the vehicles on either side of her, and come to rest against the one opposite of her! What did she do? Put her cigarette out and start headin for the crosswalk to go shopping.

I am all for the reclassing the vehicle operating licenses

I think that older drivers should be retested but 60 might be a bit young...that would mean I only have 13years to enjoy driving my XJ!

TRUE story...
I was at the license station getting mine renewed and this old guy (at least in his 80's) was in front of me stepping up to that vision test. I don't know if you guys have the ones where you look into this box thing and they ask you to read some stuff and tell them which side the light is flashing on. Anyways they had to keep asking him and he said he didn't see any flashing light at all, they passed him anyways. So I'm not sure what the point is of testing someone if they fail you pass them???

I've seen older people who I think shouldn't be driving but then again I've seen younger people do the same crap.

I would have went to the person at the counter and ask to see the person who is in charge in that particular office, and see what the heck is going on. Somebody like that is obviously a safety issue. Or write some letters to the editor, or call your congress-critter, etc, etc... You are absolutely correct, if they won't enforce stuff like that it's pointless, and so we need to beef up the enforcement of stuff...

We already have more laws about nearly everything on the books than we'd ever need if they simply would enforce it...

Yeah, but really pisses me off is old people get a brake on their insurance rates, even though they are more likely to kill someone they hit with the battle tanks they tend to drive. I also hate it when they drive around with those dang horse blinders on, you know, the dark glasses that envelop their heads so as to restrict thier vission even more than their cataracts do. I mean really, the old guy that hit me told the cops he didn't see me! How the he11 do you not see a bright yellow car on a blacktop road on a bright sunny California day?! Simple, he was blind as a bat and should not have been behind the wheel of a motor vehicle. Didn't think of it then, but I shoulda sued the state for licensing him in the first place.

Two things made my sell the custom Harley I built from the ground up, old people pulling out in front of me and people on cellphones. The worst was this young girl yapping on a cellphone who went through a redlight and nearly took me out. I scraped the pegs HARD to avoid her.

I like that idea of having SUV owners having to take some driving test to be able to drive one. It snows pretty good up here every single winter yet the first snowfall I see nothing but SUV's in the ditch. These stupid people have this "it's 4wd go anywhere" attitude.

True story-
In the state of PA, the drivers licensing employees are usually physically impared adults, that the state hires to be politically correct. I jsut had my DL pic taken- we had to reshoot 7, yes I sid 7, times cos the person taking my pic was visually impared! My suggestion- get people who can actully SEE to test others that r going to be operating a vehicle.
