A while back i was sitting in my jeep parked, with the top and doors off. Some kid walks outside a building and insults us violently. A passenger says 2 or so words maybe he didn't need to. Then the kid runs up(up to this point i think they're buddies or something cause ive done that before) and starts hitting him. Who he attacked was a lot smaller than himself. It didn't go well from there.

Curious what would everyone have done in this situation?

Its in my belief that only uneducated animalistic morons have to be physical when nothing has been done to them to provoke it.

I am lucky, at that point I would pull out the cuffs and call for a wagon, sometimes being a cop has it's privdleges. I used to do some light undercover work, and people get real supprised when the cuffs come out when they think they have the upper hand..

Sounds like your buddy should have just stomped his @ss and cut out of there,,, Self defense is still leagle just have to watch how you explain yourself.

97 TJ 31's and mostly stock but seeing what I can do about that..

Ive had police officers tell me to defend myself physicaly. And judges tell me not to touch them no matter what. I was 18 at the time and the guy was 17. He attacked a 15 year old.

The USA criminal system is out of line in my opinion. You can throw paint thinner on someones show car with a custom 5 thousand dollar paintjob right in front of them. Either you dont like them, they defended themself when you did something to mess with them or whatever. Then in court its your word against theirs. 50/50

I am starting to think that people are going off the deep end. Thursday night I was at the bar, like I always am on a Thursday, I dont go to drink and I dont I just like the band that plays, anyway, I was with a friend of mine and her friends, 4 girls total, there were some drunk guys in the corner that kept hitting on the girls and hassling them, so when one of them walked up to the table I very politely asked him to leave them alone the girls werent interested and he walked away. 10 minutes later another one of them walked up to me and told me to take my glasses off. When I asked why he told me he wouldnt hit a man with glasses so I removed my glasses and laid them on the table and told him to do what he felt he had to do, but he better be sure about it first, well this guy gets all flustered when I didnt back down and tells me he knows Karate, or something like that (sure he does), thats fine I tell him but I know everyone in this bar besides you and your friends. he just turned tail and walked away. I am assuming that he had a problem with me asking his friend to leave the girls alone, but I am not sure....what a bunch of messed up people in this world, few weeks ago a friend of mine was leaving the bar and someone walked up behind him and pushed him for no reason, when my friend as why he did he said because he could, my friend asked him not to do it again and turned to go to his car and the guy pushed him again, he turned around again, but this time swinging and dropped the guy right there and just walked away, why do people need to act like that, I feel that my friend was completely justified to lay the guy out, but why can't people act like humans, its getting tiring to deal with this all the time.
Sorry this was so long just thought that it related to the to what was being discussed.

Kris

I do the same thing every weekend, its just the location where I do it that changes!

Re: OT....Rats in a cage!

/wwwthreads_images/icons/frown.gif As the population increases and urban stresses increase, and the public is fed a non-stop diet of TV and movie violence, hurting and killing has become almost routine. You can go from an insulting single word to gunfire in one easy step. We JUST HAD a bully-type guy killed by a driver that he punched after a traffic altercation, and then the driver ended up offing himself./wwwthreads_images/icons/frown.gif SO MANY people are walking around wrapped REAL TIGHT, and even packing a gun is risky since you ARE going to end up killing someone and that's trouble too. Don't EVER think that pulling a gun out will end the argument, as the motorist found out, he HAD to shoot the bully guy to stop him./wwwthreads_images/icons/frown.gif

Ok, my two cents because this stuff is going on all the time and sometimes im on the otherside sometimes im on the right side. We all have bad days, maybe the jerkoff that came up and started hitting your friend was in the zone? My question to you is why didnt you drive away before he could approach the car? If he hits your car, then its your problem and you can/should make the choice to defend yourself. Did you call the police? Did you help your friend at all? Did the guy live there or nearbye? What kind of neighborhood where you in?

You are right about the law. My brother is a police officer and i on the other hand have a long and detailed history for "volunteer work" for our system. We both agree though that the law is typically unfair and judges make a mockery of the law. I was once taken to court for crimes that i wont put down except to say this, they were not rape, but they were equivelent to murder/manslaughter. Equivelent but not the same. I sat in jail for quiet some time for lack of bail. Purchased my own attorney for what ended to be a 12,000.00 bill at the end of a three day trial. I was sentenced to 9 years in prison with no goodtime allowed. It took over 2 years to win my appeals. I won because in court i had 22 constitutional violations in the COURT PROCESS alone, not including detective work, the fact they found the people responsible and neglected to mention that during the trial as EXCULPLITORY evidence , that means proof of innocence. There in all were 47 reasons that pointed to proved my innocence and all were overlooked or hidden by the police. My brother was disgusted at the whole thing. The detective tried to twist his own wording, but my brother stood up in court and pointed the manipulation out which still didnt help. I won my appeals in circuit court all the way to state supreme court. Each time i won the DA would appeal the winning keeping me in prison for that much longer. When i did win i recieved a settlement for being locked up, but let me tell you from my own experience. No matter the dollar amount given, it cannot replace the loss of confidence i have for my country. It cannot replace the loss of friends or property that went away while i was going thru this. But i do know this, you cannot rely on the judicial system. I came out of prison with more knowlege on how to break the law, then if i had wanted to be a criminal all my life before. And because i had such a class a felony when the prison became overcrowded, i was tossed into a lottery and moved out of state with murder's / baby rapists / and sexual murder's of the worst possible sort. I have had breakfast lunch and dinner with the i-5 killer, reputed greenriver killer, and ever shawn eckhart of the tanya harding incedent. What a fairy punk he was always staying in his cell because people kept on kicking his ass. Ive seen every sort of violence under the sun that a man can do to another hand to hand/foot/razor tied with dental floss to a plastic toothbrush for a handle, and it never ceases to amaze me why people choose to use violence over words. If you are unable to adaquetly express yourself, then prison will be the place for you. Believe me, if you think carrying a gun is going to solve your problems, wait till you shoot someone and you think your dead to rights in self defence and then you end up doing 5 years because thats the lightest sentence youll get from a judge for manslaughter (not my situation) I have seen that so many times its like seeing toyota's on the road. In there you dont talk sh!t becuase someone will check you before you can finish the sentence. IF you are too mouthy they will knock you out put your mouth on the toilet rim and kick you in the back of the head so your jaw is broken and you swallow your teeth and sometimes the tounge.

Not to get into too much detail, just to say this, dont rely on justice or the law. This is a fact, we live in a country that has the highest by MANY TIMES the number of people locked up per capita then any other country in the world. And we are the nation that boasts of freedom? And please no iggnorant flames of "if i dont like it i can leave it" because I am trying for one, but what country takes a man with a record? Yeah i still have one, from the fact that even though i went thru a retrial and won, it shows as past history. That and when im done with school hopefully i can spend some time out of the country working, and come back to retire. Dont get me wrong. I like the country, but the judicial system leaves something to be desired....

This is why it pays to choose quality of life over quantity of income and live in a place where all this crazy sh&t doesn't happen.

Max, that is a scary story. I will agree with you that our criminal justice system sucks. I love my country, I fear my government.

Everyone has to right to say something.
Everyone has a right to respond.
Most people forget that they also have the right to NOT respond.
The aggressor prompts the situation, but the action of the receiver is usually what lights the fire. The vast majority of the time, if the second person ignores the provoker, nothing else will happen. However, if hostilities arise, they can reach a point where you MUST defend yourself (and let the consequences follow - LEVE). The wise man knows where that point is.
BTW - I have NEVER seen anyone do anything intelligent after drinking alcohol.

Well this is quite the interesting question. I think when someone attacks you, you defend your self thats the easy part. The hard part is to walk away from an idiot who is trying to provoke you or has disrespected you. The way I look at it is what do I have to loose if I go to war with an idiot that I just realy dont want to be near. Well I guess everything would be the answer if you realy hurt someone you can end up in jail or paying off a law suit for the rest of your life. So I guess it all depends on what your tollerance level is and what you have in your head as a course of action if or I should say when it happens. I personally have studied martial arts alot throughout my life and would rather not get close enough to an idiot to kick his ass. So this leaves me with the mental outlook of trying to avoid the idiots or put up with there BS to a point. Thruoghout my studies in the martial arts and some sparring stand up and ground fighting its always a controlled situation one on one. In a bar or on the road has to be the stupidest place to get in a fight, there are to many verriables. I have done the bar fighting drunken brawl stupidity in my younger years and even when I won I still lost because nothing was gained for the effort other than gaining an ennamy to look for when he attempts revenge. Guns are verry stupid because like mentioned above they just escalate the steaks. So I guess gaining the knowledge that some people just thrive on being stupid and confrontational I guess to be thought of as a cool dude or tough guy there for respected by friends or feared by all is helpfull when you realize that thies people are just retarded people looking for acceptance. So ignore the retards and find real people to be with. jim.
