i have never welded anything before but i really really want to learn how. Im 18, so funds are a problem. any recommendations on how to learn this fine skill? books, videos, buying a cheap one and practicing? thanks!
I'd look and see if the local community college offers a welding class. That way you get free materials and maximum exposure to all types of welding/cutting. Cost is minimal and you can get a certification if you pass.
Hi All I'm fairly new to the forum and I may be able to help on this one. The classes offered in the vocational centers are definatly helpful. They will show you saftey, and basics for the welding you are interested in(gas, arc, mig, tig). The only thing I can say is to practice as much as possible,it is the only way you will perfect it.
I agree, take the classes. It will show you the RIGHT way to learn, and explain some of the processes. A good foundation of learning. Plus you won't have somebody teach you THEIR way, then you have to re-learn it later.
What about family/friends/club members. It's one of the best parts of jeeping. Swapping info, or teaching/learning. I would think you'd find somebody to help you booger something up.
Oh.. and make sure you do some reading before you buy a welder. They have come a LONG way in the last few years. Find you a wire-feed welder if you can.... you'll never wanna learn STICK welding..
