I recently took the father-in-law wheeling in my 86 cj-7 with MPI & 4.0 head swap. Now he is complaining he needs more power. He has a 1981 CJ-7 with 4.2, 30x9.50, 4 speed. I believe his gears are 2:73 or 3:31's. Other than Teamrushes ignition upgrade, does anyone have any sugestions for wringing any more CHEAP power out of this set-up. The tires make the rig pretty doggy on the highway.

My 83 CJ7 had 2.73s in it... There isn't much you can do to the engine/tranny that is Cheap and will over come those gears and running taller tires... Bottom line those tall gears are the killer.

There's no replacement for cubic inches. 304-401 cheaper than fuel injection on the 258? Extremely my $.02. Good Luck.
