I was just wondering how everyone else was feeling on the subject of the new Jeep compass. I felt sick for awhile about it kind of associating it with the feeling of paying a hundred bucks for tickets to the eagles and getting to the concert only to realize that they were going to be spending the evening rehearsing songs from the kids show barney. I cant believe that they would make a vehicle to compete with the import market and grace it with the good heritage of Jeep. The whole thing sickens me....but then I'm sort of a history buff and being bombarded by little front wheel drive impalas and malibu's A front wheel drive monte carlo ss with A 6 CYLINDER ENGINE... And now Jeep...What has happend to line loyalty? Tradition? Heritage. Mustangs have retained the line so far, camaro's corvettes. 20-50 years ago we built the best cars in the world now their all crap. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

agreed....however, scince there has been no vehicle truly MADE IN THE USA (including all those overpriced harleys) for probably 30 years or more...i can only hope it will help keep some of our money "in country"

other than that...its a carbon copy of a Lexus/mercedes/VW/subaru/mazda/.....POS!

I will reserve judgement on the Compass until I've seen the underside and suspension, personally.

I DO think Daimler-Chrysler went a little overboard re-branding Jeep, however, and most of the new vehicles coming out under the jeep brand are... well... not very 'jeep'.

"Look Honey, a roadside market. Lets put it in four wheel drive so we can enter the gravel parking lot. We can buy some country stuff for our penthouse apt and take pictures of the simple folk and their gas guzzlers. I love wearing socks with my overpriced sandles made by slave laborers."

I agree with the line loyalty and trying to keep Jeep Jeep. If DC wants to produce yuppie crap let them do it under a different line, they have enough of them, they could call it the Trail Neon, or the Neon Xtreme. Also mustang didn't always keep true to form either, in the 80's they madea few that were glorified escorts.

My wife said it was 'cute' when we saw the first commercial.......

I think that should answer the question.

It is probably a decent vehicle to get most people where they need to go. Better looking than a Pontiac Aztek. However, I do not think the Jeep name should be on it. Sort of like when the YJs first came out there was talk at Chrysler about having a Dodge version. Didn't do it then, shouldn't be doing it now. Just my two cents.

It was the 70's and they were Pintos /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

This thing is only out of whack like most of DC's offerings. Only in this day and age would you produce so many gas guzzlers at one time.

If this thing had a diesel worthy of the road, it wouldn't be a bad deal.

I sware there has to be something in the water where ever these clowns hang out.

I don't think that there's enough people making enough money to buy that many self indulgent, wasteful, vehicles. I feel bad enough throwing $40+ in the tank a week for the wife's commute. For those who can and do choose to put $75 ..more power to 'em.

Mustang? Remember the first Mustangs '65 etc were built on Falcons. The 6 cyl even had 4 lug nuts!

They never have been "their own."

I agree. However, the same can not be said about the Compass. And the TJ was designed by Chrysler (not DC), wasn't it? I think that DC is getting a lot of things right with some of the newer Jeeps, but I think they are dropping the ball a lot, too.

If Eagle still lived, this would be one.

Where else could DC stick this vehicle? The Dodge line has become the truck/ hemi powered car outlet. Chrysler is now the 300 style fancy rides.

The Compass is exactly where it belongs. DC killed the Neon name anyway.

(Personally I think it belongs in the garbage.)
