I just bought a 1999 GMC Sierra 4X4 WITH A VORTECH 5.3L V8 and towing package (tow haul mode). Probably not enough info for what I'm about to ask but it's a start. I would like any and all opinions on this setup. I’m no stranger to a wrench but this is my first full size 4x4 and I want to do some mods (rather have some of them done and do some myself I'd do all if I knew how.). I don’t spend a lot of time in the mud or rock crawling but I want to be able to if I wanted too.
Here is what I have in mind,
A SUPER CHARGER FROM VORTECH
A THROTTLE BODY SPACER
MASS AIRFLOW SENSOR
SOME TYPE OF AIR INTAKE FILTER SYSTEM LIKE K & N
SKYJACKER 6" NO DESTRUCTION SUSPENSION LIFT
WELD RACING SUPER SINGLE II RIMS 15X8
33X12.5 R 15 TIRES-UNDECIDED
AN AUBURN LOCKER IN FRONT IF COMPATIBLE
DETRIOT ELECTRIC LOCKER IN THE REAR IF COMPATIBLE
SHOCKS? UNKNOWN SUGGESTIONS
ELECTRIC PULLER FANS
GEARS? SUGGESTIONS
A PERFORMANCE PROGRAMMER FOR THE ECM
I HAVE A CUSTOM EXHAUST BUT IT'S OLDER

I'm planning on hiring 4wheel auto parts to do the work I cant in Orlando, FL...OPINIONS
I'm guessing between 10 and 12 grand. Ok folks have at me I'm sure I said something stupid or doesn’t jive. That’s why I want your opinions on setting up this truck RIGHT.
Thanks to all Replies

Ok, first, welcome, but this is an IFS truck so this should really be in the IFS board. Looks like you're trying to get a lot of power out of that motor with bolt ons, and you're not gonna see much improvmenet from anythign but the supercharger. The spacer and airflow sensor probably won't do much.

Now for the rest, a 6" lift woudl be good, but you could easily run 35's on that. 33's will look small. If you are sticking to 33's though, you may not have to regear. If i were you though, i'd get 35's and regear appropriately. An E-locker in teh back is a good idea, but they dont' make a locker/limited slip for the front.

Shocks, get teh bilstein 5100's

Electric fans - not sure if it will be worth it, unless you need to turn off the fan for water crossings or something.

Power programmer - talk to whoever puts on the supercharger, they may not work well together.

Basically, look into more of this stuff before you spend the cash. And you should be able to do it for way less than 10k. Lift/tires should be 3500ish.

Good luck!

DHC hit it pretty well. if i were at it. I'd go for the lift and tires. 25X12.5 will do well for you. the 33s will foit stock and they do look kinda funny on a lifted truck. as for bolt ons...the general concesus is that bolt ons suck. they dont get you much for what they cost. the super charger will definately get you some results. so i agree with open element intake, super charger, and then I"d go headers and exhaust. then you've got air gettting in adn going out quite well. if you are going to be playing off-road, and you haev the cash you might want to look into a brush guard and some lights...the guard is mostly just for looks, but the lights are a good thing to have

Keep in mind that with that much power you will probably break parts. The transmissions are kind of borderline anyway (IMO); I would recommend putting a big tranny cooler on it if it doesnt already have one to help it live longer. The front diff and cv shafts will also be a weak point.

If you are going to lift it, regear, etc. you might want to look into doing a SAS (straight axle swap) on it. I dont know if anyone makes a kit for the new trucks yet. I know they do for the older body style. Just something you might want to check into.

Yeah, if you are looking at spending 10 to 12 K, you could easily do a Solid Axle swap. I'd do that and forget the motor mods.
