I have an 83 CJ with the serp belt and run a york with the V-belt. I grabbed a V pully from a big car(dont ask I dont know) that was the same size as my idler pully. I had CANYON CITY 4X4(ask for Chippy) weld the two pullies together and make a bracket. Works great and doesnt vibrate.

Here is a question. In stead of making a sattelite from the York, Couldn't you say make a mount on the inside fender well and run a belt from the york over to the fender well mounted accesory?? My only thing would be engine movement that might yank the belt, but could there be a way to make the mount felx with the engine.
Just a little idea to throw inot the mix

/wwwthreads_images/icons/tongue.gif Actually, we DID that Dan. It worked OK. We were so aprehensive about the installation that we actually put spring-loaded idlers on BOTH the drive side and the driven side of the belt to give it some moveability. We also snugged up the engine mounts real good. We ended up letting the side belt pull the alternator and keep the main belt tension that way. A crazy setup, but well.....we wanted air real bad./wwwthreads_images/icons/crazy.gif

At least i cam not crazy to think of that . It seems it would be easier to make the brackets for that way of mounting it. I hope it worked well for you CJDave

When looking for a yaork compressor, they make three stroke lengths of 7,9, and 10 inches. Try to get the ten incher....more cfm.....there will be a 10 in the serial number...in the middle instead of 9 or 7.

thanks for the info on identifying the long stroke york. Everyone has been very helpful. I am gathering parts now and hope to have the job done before x-mas. When I get done I'll let everyone know how it turned out and post it on my page.
Thanks all!! Lance (axlesupagain)

On the V belt vs. serp belt, here is what I did. I found a v-belt pulley that I mounted to the Harmonic Balancer (the pulley I found had 3 holes that matched the threaded holes to pull the Balancer). The rest was easy.
