I was looking for a pressure switch today to finish up my york installation and the only hardware store in our small town that carries them told me the Square D switch they have is for water systems and wouldn't work for air. I have been told they are the small and it will work. Is that true??? Thanks

It should work. Pressure is pressure. If it can handle water, air should not be a problem. However, I would think that you could find another source. I would imagine that the Square D part is expensive. If its more than $50 then I would look for something else. Try a Granger book. If they don't have it....well, go with Square D.

/wwwthreads_images/icons/smile.gif SqD makes a fine air compressor switch, it is factory set (but field adjustable) for 80 cut-in and 120 cut-out. They are not any more expensive. Go to an air compressor outfit. Use the smallest one you can get./wwwthreads_images/icons/smile.gif

I picked up a 3/4 hp air compressor at Costco. I think it was about $130. From that I got a 2-1/2 gal tank, pressure switch, gauges, and a regulator. It wasn't that bad since I got all I need with one purchase.

The one intended for water will work in theory, but you won't be able to adjust it for the pressures you want. Water systems typically run between 30-60 psi so that's what their adjustment range is; ones intended for air compressors (which look exactly the same) can be adjusted around 80-150 psi. After unsuccessfully trying to use one intended for water I gave up and got an air one from McMaster-Carr, cost about the same.

Bob/CA,
The conmpressor you got at Costco, was the intended for vehicle use? If so, I need to go get one.

No it wasn't. It is a 110 volt, 3/4 hp. But it has everything you need, except the pump. For that you use an a/c compressor.

I couldn't find just a small tank anywhere for a reasonable price. Now I see the tanks advertised for $80. So the regulator, gauges, pressure switch, and I think it came with a short (15') hose cost $50. All of which is on or in the Jeep.

BTW, pressure switches are running $12 to $20 in Grainger. It does not matter the voltage rating.

OOOOOhhhh, I think the light just cliked on. Your using just the tank, regulator, etc and not the motor part. Right?

It takes me a while before the light goes on. I am like the chevy IFS "differentail". Put it in gear and wait for the gases to warm up before it engages. But I will get it sooner or later.

Do you have the part number from MCMaster-Carr? I just got a catalog last night but it's huge! Actually my Quick-air and tank came yesterday.

Anyone have a breakdown of all the parts they'd recommend for installing a Quick-Air and Sun Performance tank into a jeep? Like fitting, hose length, switches, etc....
I can get a kit for $80 from Sun, but probably cheaper buying stuff individually.
