Old Suzuki\'s

What do ya'll think of the old LJ series Suzuki's? I have an opportunity to buy a (197(2)?) water cooled hard top with about 35000 original miles. (2 owner rig) I can get it for $1500. Is there any similar parts to a Sammi? BTW, I may even be able to trade my Jeep for it.

I have always liked them, but then I like the old gladiators as well.

If you get the chance, pick it up, but parts maybe kinda rare.

You could lift the Gladiator, throw a 401 in it, and use it for a tow rig. That and wheel the snot out of it. I love the look of those old trucks.

LJs
Watch for the gear boxes - they're seriously cheesy - have the tendancy to blow third.
Transfer box aint much better.
410 engine will bolt straight onto the LJ gearbox if you want to keep it.
Don't expect the axles to handle any more than 31s in muddy conditions.
Feeling ambitious ? Lift the body & throw in Sammi 1300 engine & gearbox ( you'll have to cut away at the trans tunnel a bit ) & mate it up with 410 transfer box & nice narrow pair of 410 axles as the saddles are the same width apart. Keep the LJ diffs for that low gearing & away you go.
You will ned to make up mounts.
But it's fairly all bolt together
