O.K. guys and especially gals. How in da heck do you get the love of your life involved and jazzed about 'zookin'? I can't even get mine to ride around town with the doors off. so as Chris Rock says "Help a brother out!"

Drive fast and take chances.

my best advise is to let them drive but to tell you the truth you have a uphill battle. my wife and kids go with me every where, but my youngest lets me know when she wants out but still like the camping and trail riding. later mike

Best way I have found is to build a rig for your better half...She can then go wheelin' with you and before you know it, she wants her's to be bigger, stronger, more articulation, etc....expensive but worth it!

#4 ·
Lets be realistic.Nevermind about building one for her right now, just introduce her to the outdoors with a nice easy trail maybe even a FS road with the top off if you have a soft top. Most importantly:take it easy the first few times when out wheelin and let her know shes safe and sure shes comfy while ridin. My wife hated it at first, she felt beat up afterwards but I talked her into it again. Also bring a picnic or something, the ladies love it and shell go again.

OK-this is from a old fat lover,so listen up-It has worked for 28 years.Drive her to a remote spot that you have already set up the candles, music, wine and a person to cater to her every need.Have a signal so he or she will know when to leave and as the moon comes up over the tree tops, tell her how she takes your breath away.Tell her how beautiful she is, as the moon light cascades thru her hair and across her angelic face. say something like this"IN THE BACK OF MY MIND YOU KNOW,I THINK OF YOU BEING MUCH LIKE GOLD.PRECIOUS TO ME, LIKE THE YOUNG TO THE OLD.LOVING ,TENDER,AND NEVER COLD-YES LIKE A PRECIOUS PIECE OF GOLD ,HER LOVE CANT BE BOUGHT ,NOR CAN IT BE SOLD.kiss her and its a done deal.If you make it to the Melt,I will take care of it for you,RR

Satch- From a woman's point of view...Involve her in what you are doing...ask her for her opinion on things, ask her for her help in the garage when you are wrenchin on your ZUK. AND ofer to let her drive and remember...it is just a truck...do not be a passenger's seat driver, help by spottin etc. like when your buddies are in your passengers seat do not be the butthead barking at her from two feet away that she is gonna burn up the clutch or hit a stump...Love is more important than any ZUK will ever be to a woman. And if all else fails...the RangerRick Poem works...I know he melts my heart everytime he says it to me!!OH and tell her that she isn't the only female that did not take to this right away...I was not all that fond of wheeling in the beginning...But now, I drive the ZUK and I am a staff member of IZOOK.COM... it all will work out.

some of us are doomed to living with non zuk friendly loved ones .i ask my girlfriend if she would like to go to all the zuk type events with me ,needless to say she is far from interested.
she was raised up with the idea that if it wasn't a ford it was junk...if it wasn't a harley it wasn't worth riding.so is life .
the one positive thing about this division of schools of thought is ,sometimes you need your alone time .even if you love your wife/girl friend/best friend/lover,there are times you must still be a single person.there are times you must do things for yourself .
sometimes it those small personal battles ,that you ,your wrench ,and about 300 to 500 curse words that are most gradifying (spelling?).
she propbably enjoys things that drive you nuts or you have no interest in . just support her in what she likes to do,hope she does the same for you,and try not to neglect the love we all would set our bikes ,our trucks ,our computer,or anything we own to keep.

sorry ,got long winded there a bit .
just put alot of thought in to the issue recently .

I totally agree with Samurea, I envolve my wife completely. She picked out the paint and helped me paint it. She has been a vital part of the construction of our truck. She know how to drive it, but perfers not to, (she has a TJ). She is my best friend and we make comprimises to each others needs. The hardest part is not overwhelming her with Zuk Fever. There are time for the zuk and times for her hobbies. Then there is time for each other. And if you can figure all that out let me know. /wwwthreads_images/icons/smile.gif

Guess I'm one of the lucky ones too. My BW is the reason we got back into Zukin'. We had one many years ago, and she loved it. When the kid turned 16 and he started driving it, she really missed it. So last year, she said, "Let's find another Sami". The quest was on. We found one, and started building it. Then the kid decided he'd like to have one again, so we found another one. Now we've got two we're working on, and loving every minuite of it. We take the newest Sami (90 efi) with us when we drive the RV, and I drive it to work every day. When weekends come, we spend most of our time in it, and she loves it. That makes it very special for both of us, being able to share something we have fun with. BTW, we've been together 30 years, so we've been doing something right I guess. The kid is getting married in September, and breaking his new wife in on Zuk's as well. She also thinks they're cool.

Mental note to those that want a female (or male I suppose for that matter) involved with your off-roading habits:

"If your signifigant other won't [censored] in the woods then you may never have luck getting them involved"

Not always true but high enough percentage to be accurate.

For us the big sell is getting outdoors and exploring/camping.

Our Zuke was originally bought for my Wife. She was a visiting Nurse and used the 4wheel to get in and out of 200' unplowed drivways so I was lucky that she loved driving it. With our Kids I get them out to help me wash it and show them how things work so they are involved that way. My 12 yr old Daughter is already buggin' me for a Sidekick. Jim

My wife of 10 years isn't into Zukin'. I've tried but it's just not her "cup of tea". Rough camping and "nature calls" in the woods just aren't her thing. She's not into the 4wheeling either. She can't understand why I want to bash my Samurai around like that.

But there are compromises. She loves the beach. So a couple of times a year we take the Zuk to Carolina Beach. I get to use 4wheel drive and she gets to lay out in the sun. Sometimes we just go up for the day. But sometimes we camp at the State campground. There's a shower facility there so it's a compromise.

If Zukin' is something you really like to do then she should support you in it. Just like you should support her in her favorite hobby. Make a deal that you will join her in something that she wants to do if she'll join you in the Samurai. Start off small.... don't throw her in to fast. Somewhere in the middle is a common ground that you both can live with.

Good luck!

P.S. I'm finally converting my 7 year old son. He didn't like 4wheeling that much, but it's starting to grow on him.

J-Bird,Wheeling at Carolina beach is awesome,Have traveled to the end of the dunes many times.Met my wife in southport also.My wife deals with the suzuki thing well even though its not her Thing. She says as long as im happy and having fun thats all that counts.I let her do the things she enjoys and in return I get all the zooky time I want so its cool!If They have no interest or negitive opinions, find a common ground where it will benefit the both of you!Team work will always render you rewards........

I [censored] in the woods i don't like to but then who the hell does?? OH that is the reason behind keeping a roll of TP in the glove box too. I am a girly girl monday thru friday, hair, makeup the whole nine yards...But when it comes to wheeling, break out the bandana and tie the hair back and I am ready to roll. I would be so angry at my husband if he didn't involve me in things. GIve her the choice over and over, and leave it up to her to say yes or no. But give her the opportunity to say yes and then be prepared if she does...eventually we all want to drive!

My Fiance is the Office Manager of a Chiropractic Office in town. Mon-Fri she wears scrubs, does her hair, and makeup and drives her Sidekick Sport kindly and gently. Like I said, that's Mon-Fri...when the weekend comes, she wants to wheel! I have recently purchased another Sammi and lifted it a little. Before I could think about it, she already had plans to make the other one into a rockcrawler..FOR HER!!!
When we met, she would ONLY drive Chevy's, the thoughts of an import turned her stomach..then out of necessity we went wheeling in the snow, and she gave a little, then the beach, and she gave some more and we bought her Sidekick and lifted it a little, then we wheeled at Uwharrie in NC and she liked it more, then she rolled twice (over to the drivers side and on the top, to settle back on the side, then after righting, onto the passenger side to the top and back down onto the side) in 5 minutes while riding with another driver, now she can't get enough.
Break her in slow, if she likes it eventually, great! If she doesn't, it's a shame and her loss, but you can still make it as a couple!

From another female point of view--you have to have a basic enjoyment of outdoor stuff and a little bit of tomboy attitude to start out with. If she doesn't like hiking, etc. she's probably not going to get into zukin much. It also helps to like getting dirty. Rob will tell you all and you'll see at the melt-we fight over whose zuk it really is.(I say mine-my name's on the title).
If she can drive a stick, let her drive it, and start on an easy trail. But Samurae is right-don't be a side seat driver. That makes me crazy and then I get pissed and don't want to drive anymore. Good luck-also try bringing her to the melt maybe if she's sees that she's not the only woman there, she'll be more inclined to join in at other times, too.

p.s. RR did you learn that in Ranger School?-ROB
