OH PLEASE PLEASE HELP (CHARGING TROUBLE)

I HAD A 258 WITH THE GM HEI IN MY 82 CJ7,I THEN REMOVED THE ENGINE AND
PUT IN A FRESH 360,I THEN HAD TO REWIRE IN THE MOTOCRAFT IGNITION, SOB
SOB.WHEN I FIRED IT UP,EVERYTHING WORKED EXCEPT IT WOULD'NT
CHARGE,IVE TRIED A COUPLE OF ALT'S AND CHECKED ALL THE WIRING,AFTER
LEAVING IT RUN FOR ABOUT 10 MINUTES IT CREPT UP TO 14 VOLTS,BUT WHEN I
SHUT IT OF THE BATTERY SHOWED OVERCHARGED,AND THE ALT WAS VERY
HOT.ANYONE HAVE ANY IDEAS WHERE I WENT WRONG?I WIRED THE
MOTORCRAFT IGNITION IN BY THE BOOK,BUT I DID EXTEND THE WIRE TO THE
COIL,ALSO I'M NOT USING A CONDENSER AT THE COIL,SHOULD THESE THINGS
MATTER?THANX ALOT ON THIS ONE

/wwwthreads_images/icons/tongue.gif You are feeding the alternator constant power on one of the little feeder wires. Disconnect them and see if it quits doing the heat-up thing. The feeder to the alternator should go off with the key....BOTH of the little wires should go off with the key./wwwthreads_images/icons/crazy.gif

I never believe any statistics unless my moonguys /wwwthreads_images/icons/crazy.gif/wwwthreads_images/icons/wink.gif made 'em up themselves.
