Does anyone know if a 1994 YJ Sahara uses OBD or OBDII for emissions control. I know all vehicles after 1996 have OBDII, but there was a transition from 1994-1996 and I can't find out if mine is OBDII or not. I'm looking for a engine diagnostics program for my laptop, and want to make sure I get the right one...

Thanks,

Steve

We started looking in March 1996 for our TJ. At that time, I remember the big stink about OBD II and how you wouldn't even be able to change the tire size without setting off the "check engine" light. I know it's not iron clad proof, but I think the OBD II started with the TJ's.

OBDII was mandatory on all vehicles 1996 and newer....This is why, IMHO, there is no 96 YJ. Which program are you looking at, and is it just a diagnostic scan tool, or does it have reprogramming capabilities as well??

I've found two programs so far that look pretty good.

OBD2SCAN from http://www.baumtools.com/obd2scan.htm

AutoXRAY from http://www.autoxray.com/

I don't believe either of them have programming capabilities, but the AutoXRAY can reset your MIL light WOOHOO...

If anyone has seen any better ones I'd be really interested in hearing about it.

BTW.. I found out I have OBD not OBDII.. the computer connection is on the firewall.. with ODBII the connection is under the dash...

Also if you want to see someting really disheartening to all of us who like to modify our vehicles, chesk out the ODBIII idea at: http://www.asashop.org/autoinc/may/obd_iii.htm
