Well I've been working on my motorcycles carbs in my dads basement and now it stinks like gas and he's having a fit. Its about 30 degrees outside so opening the door to the outside isn't our favorite option and the windows are probly painted shut. So do ya'll have any tricks on deoderizing the gasoline smell from the basement or your workshop or other work spot?

A few months ago jeep chick ran out of gas and I drove out in my explorer to get some. The gas tank spilled in the back and the upolstry (sp) stank, it too was in the middle of winter and driving around with the windows open was cold, but it kept me from getting high.

Now, this works, get kitty litter. My landlord suggested it. So I spread it out all over the back area, withing a day or so, it was pretty much gone ( as far as the odor goes).

Thats my $.02 it's worked for me in the past.

Throughout high school I worked in a shoe repair store. We would often get shoes in with fire damage. By that, I mean they were in a closet adjacent to a room that was on fire. I don't know if you guys have ever smelled something with fire damage - but I tell ya, it is a smell that give gasoline a run for its money.

To eliminate the smell, we soaked the items in about 1 part White Vinegar to 2-3 parts Water. After the items dried, other than the fact that they were dirty, you couldn't tell they were in a fire.

I was amazed the first time we did it.

Gasoline fumes in the house = scarey.
And I hope the furnace isn't in the basement.

I have no answer to help you.

But please do not take any gasoline in the house. I don't even work with it in the garage in the winter. I do the flammable stuff outside in the cold......and deal with it.

A fire or explosion just isn't worth it. (and don't tell me there was no chance of having one.......because there always is. Ask your local FD. Or better yet tell them the story
)

Be safe.

When I'm talkin about working with gas here I'm talking about less than a cup. It was just what was left in the float bowls of my motorcycles carbs. I cleaned it all up with 5 paper towels within a few seconds but the smell remained.

As for the furnace, both of them are in the basement. Its the only place to work on my MC's carbs during the winter, especially since there is 9 inches of snow coming down.

I understand Nick. What I was getting at was it doesn't take much. And FUMES are what normally cause the fires. I was not trying to preach or flame. Just wanted to mention that it's dangerous. And we have lots of readers on here. (if ya get my drift)
