Re: O/T Nothing Sweeter then a Brand new PETER

Hey, congrats on the new rig . Lord knows the market is right for buyers , the sale papers around here are 4 times as thick as they used to be . The prices are right for sure, I'd hate to be selling a truck right now . Buddy of mine has elected to keep his '96 Pete even though he joined the million miler club with it . I think she stands now at 1.63 million miles and still pullin strong .

Larry,
What size Cat is it C12, C15 or C16 ??
Over here most Cat powered company trucks are fitted with the C12s @ 445 hp were as owner drivers and a few companies go with the C15 @550 hp and C16 @ 600.
How do you find the Eaton 10 speed automatic shift ? I've never seen one here yet but they were an option on the Freight liner Argosy I was driving in 2000 which had a 14lt Detroit @ 550 and 18 spd.
Is that a Volvo
in the back of your photo ?

Hay Shane to tell you the truth I dont know yet what size Cat it has . I had to shop it becous of an ABS brake problem.. I haven't had it out on the road yet either. I guess I won't get it back till monday some time.
The fraightliner I came out of also had an Eaton 10 speed autoshift BUT it still had the clutch. THe Pete is a Full autamitic NO clutch. Will let you know what it has in it and how the tramision works when I get back from my first trip.

Hi Shane ~ well I have spent my 1st week in the Pete and had a chance to check some things out It's a C15 Pussycat but cut back to 435 hp. It's smaller then the Detroit I was running in the Fraightliner I was in. Seems to pull pretty well though.Got a lode on that is around 42000 lbs. and it's handling it well. Yes it is a Volvo in the back ground. The company is currently running Volvo's Fraightliners And Pete's ( About 5000 trucks total)
AS to the auto shift It works well. The freight Liner I had was auto shift also but still had the Clutch. The Pete is FULL auto~~ NO clutch and I don't miss it a bit
It's the SMOOTHEST riding truck I've ever had. I wasn't really supposed to get the Pete as I Don't Teem drive and the Pete's are supposed to be for Teems only. I kind of shamed them into giving me on as I have been with the company for 12 years and just recently received my Million Mile award from US Xpress and the ATA. If your not familiar with the award it's for haven driven for one million + miles without squishing any 4 wheelers

I guess they felt a little SORRY for me as I'm and OLD Fart and they thought I would fell better If they gave me a Big Red PETER!!!

Larry,
Sounds all good to me !
Even though they cut it down to 435 HP it should have a
sh!t load more torque than you old Detroit had being a 12.7 Lt vs 15 Lt motor so that auto shouldn't be working to hard as well.
BTW congrats on your Million Mile award too, I quit close to a million km. I don't think I could of handle any more
over here our trucking industry's turned to crap over the last 10 years, there's so much legislation designed to make trucking harder to make a buck and its getting like the US problem of trucks sitting in yards with no drivers.
I better stop ranting on and get to work now or I'll be looking for a truck to drive again

Larry must say you have a nice rig. I personally work on quite a few of US-Express's trucks. I work for TA (Travel Center of America) in Albert Lea MN. If you ever stop in to fuel up or for work look me up. I must say Petes have definitely came a long way from what they were. Must I stand behind frieghtliners though since they are my bread and butter. Got love warrenty work. LoL Shane you must heck of a man to drive a freightliner Argosy. They are one most hated trucks that we get the joys of working on. Also Larry congrats on the million mile award! I wish more drivers out there could do it.

Hay Flipper Good luck on gettint the Job`` I Recentely tried to get a Job at Walley World (Wall Mart) as a Driver but was told by them that I failed my driving test~~
Ya RIGHT~
I had given them a copy of my Million mile safe driving award with my application and I was a trainer at one time traning drivers to pass the very test he gave me. HMMMM I wonder if being over 55 had any thing to do with it???. It seems the only place you'll see older folks or the disabled at Wall Mart is standing by the front door where every one can see them as greters!!

Brian~~ I was just past your area last week on my way to Linclon NB. (about 100 mi South) I don't get up your way very much as I usualy run (except when there shut down) a dedicated run hauling GM parts out of El Paso TX to Lake Orian MI. doing one round trip a week. The 2 best things about the Pete is it's a Eaton 10 speed full automatic (no clutch) and it's the smoothest riding truck I've ever driven!!!
