So I'm going to Phoenix tomorrow. Going to spend three days at the Point South Mountain Resort... Then off to the Mortgage Technology Expo Monday & Tues.

All Arizonites, what is there to do in Phoenix other than Golf, baseball, and hiking? Any cool secrets that are worth checking out while we're down there?

Ok, you actually got me off my butt on this one, as I was told about these things, and wanted to check for myself. I hope to go down to Phoenix in the fall.

How about renting a fully-automatic weapon! Shooting range rents them ~$35/hr m16, uzi, etc. Yes, you can go full. You can also have a belt-fed 50cal for a day ($500 in the desert $2.50 a shot)! Call Mandells in Scottsdale (20min from Phoenix) 480-945-2553 not open Sun.

Right now the biggest thing around here is Spring Training...assuming your a baseball fan.
FYI - It's 4:00pm and a sunny 85 degrees here in Phoenix.

Drive up to Prescott: cool 'Old West'-type town - some of the interiors of the places on the town square look like the saloons in the John Wayne movies. Lotsa neat saguro (sp?) cacti along the route too.

Just north of Prescott (20mins?) is Gunsite... if you're into shooting and 1911 .45's.

Or, drive around and look for old 'rustless' CJ's!

BTW: If you 'pack'; last I knew concealed is verboten, but 'open carry' is just fine. Suggest checking that out though - been a few years since I've been there.

Nah. No Jeep with me... I wish I did have one though, it would be sweet to do some trailriding down in AZ.

Interesting, of all the replies to this thread, the majority of them have a gun theme...

What is it about AZ and guns? hehe.

There's a great place just north, called Pinnacle Peak. Its a restaurant, entertainment center, old west type place. Don't wear a tie, though.

Well I just got back from Phoenix last night around midnight and while I was out there I made three observations:

1. Damn you guys for your weather. It was upper 80's lower 90's the whole time I was there. I enjoyed that to return to Wisconsins complete crap commonly reffered to as weather. I truly envy you guys...

2. Point South Mountain Resort is FABULOUS. IF you guys want an awesome resort with everything you would want... Go there. I was there for three days, never left the resort, never ate at the same place twice, and never drank at the same place twice. The service was spectacular and everyone went out of their way to provide me with a great stay. I highly recommend it.

3. Whats with the Jeeps? Is a lift kit an option when purchasing a Jeep? It seemed like every single Jeep from the CJ's to the XJ's had lifts!! Oh yeah, and NO RUST!!!

Arrghhh. Now I have to run to the store. And I have to put on my 14 layers before departing...

Well dam,,,,, wish I had seen this post before you got here. I could have met you and show you some good Arizona trails on a day tour. I work just a few miles from The Point South and I love the food there. Aunt Chiladas is a fab place to eat as well as the Steak house. Sorry I missed you.

Yes we tend to like our guns out here, and they are allowed to carry NON concealed and concealed if you have the permit, (AZ permit). We have a nice crop of women out here, not really different from anywhere else. Just the weather allows them to wear a little less clothing

Everyone out here lifts their Jeeps just cause the road construction here never ends. We need it to get over the piles left in the roads

Yes this great 80/90 degree weather is nice now but give it a few months, (about 1.5) and it gets hotter than H..E..double hocky sticks...

Maybe I will catch you on the next trip.

Scott, actually I never left the resort.

I had planned on taking a trip to go try shooting some stuff - it sounded like a lot of fun. But we were there with our wives and they weren't up for going and shooting guns. Go figure...

GP, damn, I wish you did see my post earlier as well! I think some trail riding would have been something that would have been a priority if I new the offer was on the table. Thanks for the offer though. We will be down next March for the Mortgage Technology Convention then, so I may have to take you up on your offer next year..
