I'm sure some has found a source other than the deal for synth gear lube...
Talked to Dodge dealer, they want $22/qt! talked with chevy they want $9.20/pint!
The stuff they use is called: Castrol Syntorg has a GL-4 rating (what does a GL rating mean??)
Dodge pt #: 4637579, GM #: 12346190
Dose anyone know the MIL-PRF #?? I called Castrol, but they won't talk...gave
me a run around...

Mobil: 75w90 Mobil 1 MIL-PRF-2105E
Asmoil: 75w90 MIL-PRF-2105E
Valvoline: 75w90 MIL-PRF-2105E

Does anyone know the equivlant with a company like mobil, valvoline, asmoil?

It's got to be out there cheaper some where...HELP!

The only sources for it that I have heard of is the deales. I'm getting ready to put a NV 4500 in my CJ in about a month (if all goes well) and from things that I have read and people I have talked to they say that you "never" have to change the fluid. I have also heard that it has a special addative but I'm not sure on that one.

Since I work in parts, I get asked this question often. I called Valvoline, and Quaker State to see if they made a gear lube that is compatable. They said no, and the only company that makes it is Castrol. I don't know what is different (I couldn't drag that out of either company). It probably has to do with patents, but i am not sure.

I don't know about Valvoline, but the AMSOIL replacement for Castrol Syntorq
75W90 GL-4 is the 75W90 GL-2 thru GL-5, either AGR or TGR.
