Nutter bypass, TR TFI questions

I have been reading the archives about the Nutter bypass. My '84 CJ7 has the inline 6 cylinder 258. I can track down the wiring easily enough but I am concerned about getting the pins in the full in position. Don't know what an idle jet looks like.

Additionally I understand the process of adjusting timing, but I have never done it. I have located the marks that indicate the timing but I don't know which one would be the top dead center.

Is this process best left to a professional? My mechanic doesn't want to disconnect emisions type equipment. I am in Texas so no one really cares about it.

The TR TFI conversion looks to be the same proposition, try it or get someone else?

Thanks for any input.

LEVE, I am sincerely looking forward to getting shed of all those hoses. I am pretty sure that I can swap out the carb without undue stress. I do have a small exhaust leak somewhere around the exhaust manifold, I dread tackling it. I suppose I should pull the manifolds while I have the carb off, at least I could re-gasket them at the same time.

Short update....the Weber is now installed on the yeepa-yeepa. I kind of followed the instructions and mixed in the Weber install article that was on the web and it works. I still think I have a worn out engine but yeepa is running now. Course the low end power is bad, but I suspect I need to spend some time getting the adjustments right.

I will respectfully request additional help in the next few days. I am starting to get interested in replacing the rubber underneath with Poly.

Thanks,

Hey, Leve, on a quick note:

I also Nutter'd, TR'd then 2100'd my jeep. When I first put the 2100 on, I pulled what looked like 3 miles of vacuum hose out of there. I also disabled the EGR.

But when I drove it, I had a nasty part-throttle ping. So I re-plumbed the EGR from a ported vacuum source, to the CTO vacuum switch, then to the EGR. The cooling effect of the egr gasses in the combustion chamber killed the pinging completely.

Just something to keep in mind.

"1. And at the same time lowered power output of the plasma."

Huh?

Actually, I have a new (rebuilt) earlier model distributor waiting to be installed. But I also need some good spark plug wires, and some new plugs to go along with it. The $12 cheapo wires are quickly giving up the ghost under the flogging of my MSD ignition.

And while I could richen up the carb to eliminate that part-throttle ping without the EGR, I'd then be giving up some gas mileage, too... Which was the point of all the mods in the first place!
